Adding a Belt to Hockey Pants?

Has anyone ever added / stitched on a secondary belt to their hockey pants? If so how did you stitch it on?

It would be secured on either side of the pants, but pass through a loop (that would have to be added as well) on the belly pad. Similar to the Supra style pants. The belly pad on my pants tends to flop out all of the time and I would like to have it stay put. Any other suggestions would be great.

Buy a velcro patch, and sew it on so that you can velcro the belly thingy closed when you put your pants on. It seems like a belt would be too much of a hassle.
