So we all knew that Chia was "over a barrel" when it came to acquiring a young D-man with potential and in the end he had to overpay.

That being said, if your team needed a young D-man and had traded for Larsson, what would have been an acceptable price for your team to pay?

Fair value was never going to get him out of NJ. That's what Ray Shero has said since the trade, it's what every Devils fan was saying before it.

They tried RNH and Eberle, I'm sure. RNH was taken high in the same draft as Larsson, I think he would have been "fair". But it wasn't a trade NJ would make. Larsson was too important.

Until Taylor Hall was on the table, we weren't going to do it. We won the trade, but we would never have made it if that hadn't been the case.

This is what teams mean when they say the player isn't available except for an overpayment.

You've got to imagine another solid young D was available for less than the price paid?

Or a desperate hockey team.

I don't see it as Edmonton being desperate.

There are more LW available in the NHL than young RHD. So more of a supply vs demand scenario driving up the price of a RHD and lowering the price of a LW.

In a vacuum Hall>Larsson, but factoring supply and demand it becomes more equal

its like asking what is the value of a car. most people have a common agreement... then some say they would never pay that price.

and others might pay far more if they place a unique value upon the car.

as a seller you choose who to sell to... not based on the limitation of the common value and certainly not to disintested parties... but you seek out the best offer

and at the end of the day, thats your value

it only takes 1 single buyer in this whole world to establish the value of your car

thats reality

No one wants that melted butter dman near their 1st pairing. He's Brian Campbell soft

lmao, brian campbell is really, really good at hockey. Campbell was the best dman on a team that won his division, holy what an insult to Tanev, you surely got him there

Something considerably LESS than Tanev.

They are pretty similar defencemen, except Larsson has higher upside, is signed longer, is bigger, stronger and plays more physical, and had the better season last year. In what world is Tanev's value "considerably" higher? There isn't a team in the league that would take Tanev over Larsson.

In terms of players? Hard to do that. Maybe Dougie Hamilton with an add on Edmonton's part. Certainly no where near what they paid for him.

Leafs and Devils fans have had many a conversation around Kadri for Larsson with whichever side adding as necessary

I still think that's probably the most accurate 1 for 1 representation, or Toronto adds a small piece
