A good example of why its important to acquire quality rather than quantity in trades. Pierre was certainly lucky that we got Stutzle and Norris out of that trade.
Different trades. This one was from the Duchene to Columbus trade, which was always known as unspectacular.

What's funny about the quantity we got from San Jose is that all five of them have NHL jobs.

-Tim Stutzle (OTT)
-Chris Tierney (OTT)
-Josh Norris (OTT)
-Dylan DeMelo (WPG)
-Rudolfs Balcers (SJS)

It's fun to make fun of Dorion but they can all play. Who would have thunk it?

He was going to be in a waiver wire fight regardless. Assuming the Sens dont re-sign Dzingel, he was still going to becompeting with 8 guys on the wing and 5 guys looking for a center spot.

Brown, Stutzle, Tkachuk, Batherson, Dadonov, Paul, Formenton, and Watson. There is also Crookshank and Sokolov fighting too.

He was going to have a tough time. Maybe if Ottawa loses a forward to expansion it would have been easier, but maybe Ottawa wasnt going to force things to work out.

Logan Brown just breathed a sigh of relief possibly, that 13th forward spot is looking. abit more open.

Dang - you are right. Sorry, they all blended together that year with underwhelming secondary assets haha.

No doubt. I'm not trying to argue Dorion is grossly incompetent. The return on that specific trade just ended up being better than everyone, Pierre included, had thought at the time.

He's a good player but he doesn't look like he's in the org's plans. I'd qualify him though, so that if he has a brilliant season or two in the KHL then we can bring him back or deal his rights.

So at the same age as Batherson..scores more goals in the AHL and then leads the bsens in points this year. Comes up for 2 games, makes good plays and plays well overall, just turned 23, but no one cares if he's gone.

OK

Not really. It isn't that black and white. The point of going for quantity is that you play the odds and hope you get lucky and one of the players steps up and takes it to the next level. Like for example, Josh Norris. Who knows, maybe in an alternate universe, Abramov becomes the top 6 forward and Norris has trouble breaking into the lineup.

Brannstrom was an example of a quality over quantity trade. Don't get me wrong, he's been great. But I'd say Norris, a quantity piece, has been better.

But where do you play him? There's no room in the lineup for him.

As long as they extend a QO they retain his rights.

Do you know if they would retain his rights indefinitely like most Russian prospects? Can’t find anything on the internet about it and I wonder if it doesn’t apply to him at all because he was drafted out of the QMJHL even if he’s a product of a Russian youth academy.

Yup. In 2-3 years good chance our wings look completely different. Guys definitely gone include Dadonov and Watson, and guys possibly gone Brown and Paul. No prospect currently a shoe in to fill those spots, albeit Crookshank and Sokolov have looked great, they are still 1-2 years away themselves.

I wonder if he would consider a trade if we make it happen at the draft?

Greig is another one, maybe Jarventie, Daoust or Kastelic in a 4th line role. They have 4 picks in 3 rds in 2021 & 5 picks in 3 rds in 2022, they should get a few more forwards from that who might turn into NHL players. Hopefully, they find another gem in the later rds, or overseas or an NCAA free wallet.

KHL isn't the worst idea for Abramov.. If he goes there and lights it up .. he can make his way back to the NHL and may open up some options for himself.

Can he get Dorion to terminate his contract? / set him free

Would be a shame if he bolts from the B-Sens at this point. In the last S/O win against the Moose, he was the go-to-guy for Mann. Abramov delivered a very pretty goal, displaying the elite quickness of his feet and hands in tight.
Let's hope the rumor is just that!

Would be nice to have that kind of talent in Belleville for the kids, but you can't expect a Russian player to stick around in the AHL very long when he can make bank in the KHL.

Based on many posts I saw about him, I thought a lot of people liked him?
