Not a fan either. Smart of Greenway to use him as a decoy and drop it to Suter on the goal last night.

From a recent Russo article.

" Pontus Aberg (one goal, four assists in 17 games with the Wild) — who didn’t feel it necessary to take part in an optional skate Thursday morning when a guy like Parise was on the ice 45 minutes early."

Leave it to Russo to call out the 4th liners. Aberg is making $650K this year to put up 5 points in 17 games. Parise is making $9M this year and has 1 goal and 5 assists in his last 14 games.

And a large reason why one is making so little compared to the other is that one was out on the ice 45 minutes early while the other didn't show up for it.

Now we just need him to show up for the actual games

Either way, Aberg should still go away.

If you had an optional day at work, would you show up?

Do we even know why he didn't show up? Maybe he had other things he had to take care of. Doesn't he have children? Maybe he wants to spend time with his children.

Not going to cut the guy for opting out of an entirely optional practice. One practice isn't the difference between where we are and Stanley Cup champions.

I wasn't even talking about the optional, I was talking about the player himself.

He isn't good enough to be on the sort of third line that good teams have, isn't suited for a shutdown role and can't play a gritty fourth line role. I don't see what the use of him is, after this season. He is the sort of player that is serviceable on a scoring line on a bad team. It was an experiment that didn't pan out.
