Anyone who thinks Abdelkader is a fighter is kidding themselves. He's going to get killed if he crosses the path of guys like Lucic and Neil, real power forward/fighter types.

Abby is enough to take care of pests and middleweights like Ott who are the ones that might actually get played against his line. Not many guys in the league can cross the path of Lucic and not get killed.

But Abby did fight Clowe who is a comparable fighter to either of those guys. He lost but was willing and didnt get killed

I want Phaneuf on the ice as much as possible against us

No one is calling him a fighter. Just saying nothing wrong with him fighting from the first line if need be. Anyway I doubt anyone on the board minds if he plays punching bag with his face and is off the ice for five minutes.

If 1.8 milllion Abdelkader takes out 6-7 million Lucic/Phaneuf/Chara for 5 minutes, it's a win for Red Wings.

Abby got lucky with Clowe. The guy leaves himself wide open and is more fortunate than anything that Clowe didn't land something big. I don't have a real problem with Abdelkader fighting, but he needs to learn to cover himself better if he's going to be taking on a guy like Clowe more often.
