If you had Ekblad, you probably don't sell the farm for Griffin Reinhart and trade Taylor Hall.

Nah, Griffin is a LHD and the Oilers weren't looking for a LHD so Chiaturd still would have made the deal. Hall was moved because he brought in Lucic, so that still would have happened too.

He's your average top pair defenseman.
Not good enough to lead a blueline, but would be a luxury as your second best guy.
If the league's pendulum swings back to a slower, cycling game he'll be elite. He struggles in transition and in open, free-flowing games. But he's solid defending in his own end and has a ton of offensive skill--Yandle steals about 20 assists from him a year on PP.
However a true 1D should be adaptable enough to succeed in any situation.

As for his contract, at this point he's worth it. Like many thought, he was overpaid the first year, iffy the second, but from now on it'll look good/like a steal.

He's a good player, still young. I think he can be as good as someone like Alex Pietrangelo. Another guy who isn't an elite skater, similar skill sets.

Probably from Keith Yandle stealing away a bunch of PPA he could be getting. Not knocking Yandle, he's great on the PP and probably better on it than Ekblad with his passing ability.
Angelo is nit soft at all, Ekblad tries to escape any physicality

Wasnt he having concussion scares? He might be playing it simple until he knows he is safe. He is still effective from what I've seen, granted I've seen him very little compared to others.

Still a fine NHL player. Similar to Eric Johnson. Had all the expectations but never lived up to them. He'll likely be a top 4 dman forever though and carve out a great career.

That's a good comparison. Similar to EJ too, they both started out great, and then settled more into their roles.

A lot of people mentioning JBo but I'm thinking Erik Johnson.

Edit: dangit knew I should have looked at page 2 before posting!

Tell me why Ekblad has the EXACT same amount of career hits listed before tonight's games in 300 less games?

People actually watch him play instead of stat watching, horrible balance in the corners and got punked by Domi who is like 8 inches shorter than him and weighs 30 pounds less in a fight. Even Mcdavid has laid him out with a hit lmao. He is many positive things, being tough to play against aint one. Weegar is tough as nails if you want an example of a tough d-man.

I'm a Panthers fan, watched him more than you. Never said he was a beast to play against. The poster said he shys away from physicality and his career hits vs AP's shows otherwise.

Yes yes the Domi suckerpunch, forgot that punking as you call it....

The guys username is “ThePatientPanther” and has a Panther for his avatar.

Never seen you post on our boards. But, yeah, you probably watch Ekblad more.

Yeah we’ve actually SEEN him play. He doesn’t shy away from physicality, like the other poster said. Why come in to a thread and stir the pot on a topic you know nothing about? Got punked by Domi, with a cheap shot. “Lmao”

As only the second player ever and first defensemen to get exceptional player status.... scouts and the pressure were on him from day one.

Panthers fans are of course lucky to have him, plus he's signed a very decent number long term. He got picked #1 between MackInnon & McDavid so he often gets forgotten about in a sense.

Hasn’t lived up to the 1st overall hype but is definitely a good but not great top pairing D. You could definitely do worse.
