The Flames welcome the dangerous Avs to the Dome tonight.

:flames

Lines: Now confirmed:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Neal
Dube - Ryan - Hathaway

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki - Andersson

Smith

:avs

Landeskog - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Kerfoot - Kamenev - Wilson
Nieto - Soderberg - Calvert
Dano - Dries - Greer

Girard - Johnson
Cole - Barrie
Zadorov - Nemeth

Varlamov

GDT story-lines:
Avs have a monster first line, with 3 players in the top 10 league-wide scoring. Can Calgary keep the red hot MacKinnon line off the board?
Avs depth is still questionable at best, can the Flames bottom 9 take advantage?

Similar to crossing skies, the Flames powerplay might have a similar time tonight as the Avs hold the 3rd best penalty kill league wide.

This is the team's 7th game in 11 days. They're just coming back from another eastern swing and the Avs are a really good team that has had 4 days off.

Honestly, I won't be too bothered if we lose this one

The Avs seem to be a one-line team, and surprisingly we've been pretty good against one-line teams so far this year. I could see this going either way.

Hi,

Why is Mike Smith starting? Serious question.......why continue to start Mike smith over rittich?

From,
A Rittich fantasy owner

As a Mike Smith fantasy owner you can get the heck out of here.

In all seriousness Rittich struggled when Smith went down last year and he was the primary starter. I think for this team to be successful they really need to get Smitty going

Because Smith actually plays well when his minutes are managed appropriately. Rittich played in Buffalo two nights ago, as Smith played in Toronto the night before. So that gave Smith three days to rest. Makes sense they would go with him tonight.

They still believe Smith is the number one. But I suspect as the seasons wears on, that will change and they'll start viewing him as more of a 1A to Rittich's 1B.

Two days of rest is more than enough. It's not 24 hours of deadliest catch.

Tweeting the head coach to put Rittich in, got you calgary fam

Backs Line usually does good against MacKinnon and company.

Really impressed with the growth on the first line the last 3 games and their advanced stats are showing the dividends.

The power play looked really dangerous on the road trip so I am not as concerned as earlier in the season. It is just a matter of time until it starts producing.

It is good for the chemistry and to get Neal going to keep things consistent for a bit. I don't think it will be too long before that third line starts producing. Hopefully Backlund's injury gets a little better so there are three productive lines.

Compher/Jost/Andrighetto still out for Avs. Bottom 9 is pretty thin for them

Are we ignoring this guy? This has to be a joke, right?

Not everyone blindly eats up that a pair of pedestrian second assists on great Lindholm/Tkachuk/Gaudreau/Andersson plays, an automatic 3 on 3 assist, and a silver-spoon in-mouth power play tap-in equate to actually playing well. Some of us have expectations for individuals outside of the counting stats they pick up when their linemates are playing well.

Kind of funny considering we are basically the Avs of the Pacific.

Shut down the top line and win the game...

Seriously, Monahan is our Phil Kessel. By no means a superstar. But still a very good player that puts the puck in the net and wins you games. Only to slandered by a bunch of know it all’s who focus on the odd negative thing he does rather than the fact he’s almost a top 10 goal scorer since he entered the league...

Or they have separate agendas and their goal is to promote their unsubstantiated theories that have no factual data to support their claim.

Monahan has 5 goals and 9 assists despite being banged up after that blocked shot in the St. Louis game. But feel free to bark at the moon.

Flames' best start in October since Mike Keenan.

Lets keep it up for November

It's odd having a good team.
Like, I'm bummed out we finished 7-5-1 in October, yet it's the best one we've had in forever. In another world, Calgary's 10-2-1 or something... pretty crazy.
