A Return to Form

HFNHL Red Wings

Guest
After a HFNHL career worst regular season result of only 54pts Nicklas Lidstrom is looking like him old self in the playoffs.

After leading the Wings in point production for 3 of the past 4 seasons he only finished 5th on the team this past season and wasn’t even among the top 10 point producing defensemen for the first time in his career. Many in the local media speculated possible causes such as locker room power struggles, undisclosed injuries, and just plain father time which both management and Lidstrom denied.

No matter what the reason Nicklas has looked rejuvenated in the second season having recorded nearly a point per game and showing some edge with 11 hits. His most impressive achievement however has been his defense. Opposing teams have only scored twice while playing five on five with him on the ice.

In other news the Red Wings will be without their top goal scorer for games 4 and 5. Mike Knuble injured his elbow in game three following a hook by Mike Komisarek that sent him tumbling awkwardly into the boards.

Given how close and bitterly contested this series has been the series could easily be 0-3 for the Wings and a loss of a key player like Mike Knuble could be devastating. Wings fans are very nervous as they do not forget that the team was up 3-0 in the series vs. the Wild last season when Gary Roberts went out injured and ended up losing that series.

At this time the team has not announced who will be dressed in his place but speculation is that the team will opt to go with Vladimir Malakhov as a seventh defencemen much like they did in games three and four vs. the Anaheim Ducks.
