Pretty damn interesting, still an early take, but still really interesting seeing those players at the top
Domi, Petry and mostly Draisaitl took big steps this year.

some would say Petry is now MTL #1 over Weber and Draisaitl leading over Mcdavid on his line

Whenever I see an advanced stat like this and notice a guy like Jeff Petry is 3rd in the league and McDavid isn’t even in the top 20, I’m more curious about the stat than the players on the list.

My excel spreadsheet tells me McDavid is the 6th best player in the league

- 4 Habs? That's insane.

- Draisaitl continuing to show his dominance in the NHL.

- On a Flames related note, Monahan is underrated.

Well, Jeff Petry is playing better than most #1 on a lot of team right now... points wise, advanced stats wise, etc.
Same goes for Draisaitl.

Petry is a top D in the league and truly underrated
( Mcdavid doesnt have the shot Draisaitl has and also Mcdavid assists him more)

this, he is A LOT, he is a consistent goal scorer who shots from quality places.

Habs play a driving pace and put a lot of pucks in the dangerous zone. It's their play-style that is being talked about a lot all over the NHL ( they have a terrible D zone coverage though)

How do you feel about goals? Cause right now, James Neal is leading the NHL and Patrick Kane isn’t even in the top-50. Almost as if everything looks pretty weird after a maximum of 7 games and a minimum of 3.

This is also ES (5 on 5), and does not take PP stats into consideration. Most of McDavid's points have come on the PP.

I would suggest editing the title (if possible) to "which players have generated the most quality shots this season." Maybe it's just me, but when I read this title I think long-term outlook.

It's not so much the stat that's at issue here. It's the fact that most players haven't even played 100 5v5 minutes.

as he alluded to, xG is broken this year because of the nhl messing up their tracking. Not that it's a good sample anyway a handful of games in

Anyone got last season stats?

1. Go to Evolving-Hockey.com
2. Go to Standard->Skater Tables
3. Change the season to 2018-2019 and strength to 5V5
4. Sort by “ixG”

Here are the top-10 for anybody who doesn’t want to do that.

1. Brendan Gallagher
2. John Tavares
3. Timo Meier
4. Cam Atkinson
5. Auston Matthews
6. Connor McDavid
7. Jeff Skinner
8. Tyler Seguin
9. Evander Kane
10. Andrei Svechnikov

Drai at #1 is no surprise at this point in this season...would be interesting to see how it is mid season with more sample size

I've always wondered this about these sorts of things. How, exactly, is it measured to determine a player is "generating a quality shot"? Passing to certain areas of the ice? Shooting from certain areas from the ice? A combination of both?

It is a lot of garbage to create a fancy statistic. Many of these advanced hockey stats are trying too hard to mimic baseball which is a very different sport.
