I'm sure it would be nothing similar to this but that's best team available:

Barulin
Eremenko

Biryukov - Nikulin
Kalinin - Medvedev
A. Belov - Chudinov
Denisov - Ryazantsev/Osipov (this team really could use a right hand shot on PP)

Mozyakin - Shipachyov - Radulov
Zherdev - Kuznetsov - Dadonov
Perezhogin- Tereshchenko - Popov
Zaripov - Syomin - Morozov

That's the team which is good on paper but only few of them are locks. For the sake of team chemistry some of the others would be replaced by one of this group: Ryazantsky, Rylov, Gorokhov, Shirokov, S. Kalinin, Gorovikov, Zinovyev, K. Petrov.

I personally would go with:
Mozyakin - Shipachyov - Radulov >> obvious reasons, best players available and I wouldn't want Kuznetsov on the same line with Mozyakin
Zherdev - Tereshchenko - Petrov >> great line for Ak Bars and Zherdev is pretty close to Darzinsh
Popov - Kuznetsov - Perezhogin >> I'd hope this would be something similar to Popov - Malkin - Perezhogin from last year's WC
Kalinin - Syomin - Dadonov >> some PK guys on energy line with really skilled player in Dadonov, might actually work
Gorovikov as 13th forward, experienced veteran, leadership, two-way ability, "glue" player, can play on any line in all situations and good edition for a team which is not very deep down the middle.

Goalies would be as listed above, would take Gorokhov instead of Chudinov (don't really like him) on D as I think he's more useful on a bottom-pairing and I'm bringing right-haded PP specialist anyway.

Endless bashing for cutting Morozov and Zaripov expected

Not bad, except Syomin isn't a Center.

Svitov did a good job in last year's WHC, I'd bring him back.

Tikhonov is a possibility also.

Sure he is, he usually centers a line with Frolov and Kostitsyn as his wings. But yes, I simply forgot about Tikhonov and I guess Svitov deserves consideration too. I picked Syomin only because he is right-handed shot but I guess that's not so important for a 4th liner.

I am not "missing the point" they are all playing in the KHL are they not? I would be surprised if they left the KHL to play in the NHL for its abbreviated season. From what I understand doesn't Malkin want to play in the KHL for the 2014 season when the Olympics are on?

Yes... and they signed a CONTRACT to play with their respective KHL teams. As Radulov showed a few years ago these contracts don't mean much.

These fellas signed a lockout contracts meaning they are legit until the end of the lockout. It's not just a usual KHL contract as Radulov's one back in the day. Also it may interest you to know KHL and NHL has since signed and agreement to respect each others contracts which means signing one of NHL'ers would be an infringement of KHL rules too. Marquee players like Malkin, Dats or Kovalchuk not coming back is not a possibility at all (Radulov as you may remember was still on his entry-level deal).

Lastly, what the article from October 23 where Kovalcuk is speaking about salary cuts has to do with anything?

Yes it's pointless because as you wrote it everyone exept Kovalchuk, Višnovsky and A. Markov have already left the KHL.

No ryazantsev, no osipov. Why in the world would they make the team? More than a shot is needed to be there. Denisov is no lock too. I rather see Antipin make the team.
If nhlers are unavailable Moro and Zaripov are locks with Tereschenko at center.
Kuznetsov is no center, period.
Shipa Ketov is a possibility.

Kovalchuk was saying on Russia Today that he might stay in the KHL. Anyway having a KHL only roster is kind of pointless since Russian players whose teams don't make the playoffs or lose early in the playoffs routinely join the Russian team as we saw with Malkin who tore it up last year.

But he won't, he would only stay if his salary was affected in the NHL due to the new CBA, Ovechkin has said the same thing. Kovalchuk along with Datsyuk will say their good byes at the KHL All Star Game.

My logic was you need to have at least one right-handed shot on PP. And that's my opinion only, I'm no coach.
