As the Leafs scramble to make the playoffs and the Marlies lead the North Division down the stretch yet again, the focus in Toronto is squarely on the blue and white.

If you have any questions about Herzog, Finn, Gauthier, Rupert, Bibeau, Verhaeghe or Brown don't hesitate to ask.

For those who already asked about Rupert, I do believe he gets an ELC come season's end. He's taken his game to a new level (he should have considering his age) and he's the heart and soul of the London team. That won't be lost on the Leafs scouting staff, he's capable of playing a 3rd line role with the Marlies.

Dave Morrison made an interesting quote in THN about Freddy Gauthier:

"You have to rate the risk reward factor versus a guy you know is going to be an asset. He might not be as flashy, but you know he'll be an asset."

This kind of thinking has plagued the Leafs drafting in recent years but it will be interesting to see how many of those safe "assets" will sink or swim in the AHL next year.

So what, Go boom or bust with every pick?

It seems that this is way some want to do it, But not really respecting the fact that there's a more than a good chance they'll bust.

It's definitely the path the Leafs have taken with Biggs and Gauthier but I have serious doubts as to whether either of them will ever translate into NHL players. Biggs looks like a 3/4W and Gauthier looks like a 3/4C in drafts that had Jurco, Burakovsky, Zykov, Namestnikov, Saad, etc.

Going boom or bust is a crapshoot it seems. I just want to see them draft players with more high end potential. IDC about the level of risk. Obviously not every pick, but we need to produce more players who can help with scoring. Detroit looks like they found another gem in Nyqvist.
