Wow, one game play-in, Rocket Roger vs. Curt Schilling. Clearly Roger has had the greater career, however Schilling has the postseason credentials to his credit with an 11-2 record and 2.23 ERA.

However, this isn't just the Rocket. It's the Rocket with the two greatest defensive infielders of all-time behind him, along with Pedroia who is no slouch.

This is a really tough call.

Given Clemens' reputation as one of the all time greats and Schilling's reputation as a big game pitcher, I think this game comes down to the bullpen. The Blue Jays bullpen does not have much quantity but has plenty of quality. Of course, in do or die games such as these, starting pitchers can always be brought in to relieve although it's not the preferable situation. I agree with le_sean, this is a tough call.

It's interesting to note that my vote might actually be different if this was a 5 or 7 games series. You need to prioritize other variables in a one-game do or die.

In a marquee pitching matchup of Clemens vs Schilling, it was the Black Sox bats that did the talking early. Back to back solo homeruns by Mantle and Piazza in the 1st, staked the Rocket to a 2-0 lead and while Schilling did his best to keep the Jays alive, it was not to be for Ted Williams' group as the Black Sox staved off elimination en route to a 6-2 win over Toronto. Up next for Chicago is Babe Ruth and his Cleveland Indians team. Congrats to both squads for a great play-in matchup.

Really thought the Blue Jays could pull through. The Rocket was just too much.
