The only comparable to the dropoff between season one - one of the great all-time seasons of any show, start to finish - and season two - one of the most execrable things I have ever had the misfortune to view - is what happened to "Heroes" starting with the season one finale. That series dropped into the toilet from the opening scene of that finale and never recovered. The big difference is that "Heroes" never reached anywhere close to the level of "True Detective" in the first place.

Sure, I get that, but I just thought it was a bit pandering, and some of the performances seemed unintentionally like caricatures and not characters.
I’ve read that Chiron’s story was partially informed by Jenkins’ experience growing up. What characters did you think seemed like caricatures?
Also disagree that the movie pandered to any audience. I think it’s important to show different experiences in movies. Chiron and Kevin are both compelling characters. Their romance and Chiron’s struggle growing up gay add meaningful layers to the narrative.
Here’s a more apt example of pandering in my mind: JK Rowling retrospectively editing her story to make Dumbledore a gay character.
Yeah, Jenkins and the writer of the book that the movie is based on are from the same area in Florida. That doesn't mean the performances are beyond reproach. I thought the Mother seemed like she came from a sketch out of "In Living Color," and much of the rest of the cast had at least a thin layer of cheese to their performances. With that said, I thought Mahershala Ali and Ashton Sanders were amazing.
Movies are the only thing I love more than hockey (other than family and friends, of course), so I don't need a lesson in the power of them. I want to see stories that run the gamut. I should clarify that at least part of my pandering comment has to do with the way it was received, which has nothing to do with the movie itself. I think coming off the previous year's "#OscarSoWhite" controversy, people wanted to fall over themselves to love this movie. I'm not saying that's what you did.
Believe it or not, I actually do like the movie. I just didn't think it was a Best Picture winning, flawless, masterpiece.

This just happened to my fiancé last week. Also I 3 friends had it happen to in the last year, one of them twice. Whoever passed the chip in the card had a lot of pull. It’s just going to get worse and worse.
Comic book movies work best for one offs and self contained stories in my opinion, small series that dont require much. Think The Dark Knight trilogy, original Superman movies, Raimi trilogy. Warner should have kept their movies a place for elseworlds stories and new ideas. The future of cinematic universes is better served in an episodic format. A true justice league story should not be confined to 3 hours. Imagine a 10 episode/10 hour epic justice league series as a conclusion to a few other seasons of DC superheroes. Its a much smoother transition from comic to tv. Daredevil should be the goal. They were never going to catch the MCU, they shouldnt have tried.I feel bad ripping people for liking comic movies now days. But i can’t help myself. I can’t see the entertainment value in them at all at this point. It’s just the same cheesey CGI junk over and over again
The content fits the book format a lot better IMO. Or an animated movie or TV show fits better than live action.
All my opinion of course.
You can't condense a decade of cinematic worldbuilding into a handful of movies. You especially can't when your universe's shepherd is freaking Zack Snyder. Him and Michael Bay should not be allowed to adapt anything ever again. Hell, Snyder may actually be worse than Bay because Bay actually made some original movies that were entertaining if not Oscar material. The only original thing Snyder did was Sucker Punch and hooooo boy was that a pile of shit.Comic book movies work best for one offs and self contained stories in my opinion, small series that dont require much. It’s early but I saw someone say it looks like we may be getting a big storm next weekend, and I start my first full time job out of college next Monday. I don’t want to start with that commute, please no.
Not being familiar with the comic, I enjoyed the SyFy adaptation of Deadly Class, pilot episode aired last night.
It seems like a fun twisted inversion of the anime My Hero Academia. Good times to be entertained.
Certainly depends on where you live. Location matters big time with this storm.
Could see some serious ice Sat into Sunday
Based off the latest I saw from Action News...looks like this is only a major storm closer to the Lehigh Valley? Philly will see mostly rain, and the immediate suburbs north and west will see a little bit of snow and then mostly rain?
