The only comparable to the dropoff between season one - one of the great all-time seasons of any show, start to finish - and season two - one of the most execrable things I have ever had the misfortune to view - is what happened to "Heroes" starting with the season one finale. That series dropped into the toilet from the opening scene of that finale and never recovered. The big difference is that "Heroes" never reached anywhere close to the level of "True Detective" in the first place.

The head of HBO or whatever admitted they rushed the writer to write a script quickly based off the success of the first season. I think it initially took a while for the first season to be written & I think it took even a little longer to find someone to buy it or whatever.

Not sure where to put it. Shawny Hill is suspended.

Easy come, easy go.

An ignorant comment, made from an ignorant place, received reasonable reaction. I get that in the moment, it'd be easy to see the highly visible pony tail and say something derogatory about it. As a PA, part of his job is to engage the crowd and be something akin to a carnival barker. But it's just insensitive and sophomoric at best, and heinous at worst. Something that distinguishing (the pony tail), probably has more meaning than just long hair, and should cause some sort of pause before drawing attention to it. Otherwise, I must've fallen asleep during the home opener when the Sharks were thrashing the Flyers and the obvious attention was given to Sharks players EK (long hair) or Burns (beard) by the PA for the Flyers to shave the long hairs because #reasons, #fanexcitement.

Sucks to be Hill, but he did it to himself, no tears to be shed.

Sure, I get that, but I just thought it was a bit pandering, and some of the performances seemed unintentionally like caricatures and not characters.

I’ve read that Chiron’s story was partially informed by Jenkins’ experience growing up. What characters did you think seemed like caricatures?

Also disagree that the movie pandered to any audience. I think it’s important to show different experiences in movies. Chiron and Kevin are both compelling characters. Their romance and Chiron’s struggle growing up gay add meaningful layers to the narrative.

Here’s a more apt example of pandering in my mind: JK Rowling retrospectively editing her story to make Dumbledore a gay character.

DC movies, unfortunately, have been poorly done outside of Nolan's trilogy and Wonder Woman and maybe Man of Steel for the most part.

JL, BvsS, Suicide Squad, AQUAMAN are fine for mindless entertainment but are so far from the MCU it's crazy.

The MCU seems to always have a genre, which adds so much more (Logan was a western, Ant Man a heist, Ragnarok a comedy). I really think it matters.

The animated universe is very good. I recommend those. In particular the last few - JL Dark and Constantine - City of Demons were excellent. Arkham Assault and the Suicide Squad were good too.

I'm a huge Constantine fan. Such an outstanding character.

Models are all over the place for this area. Some showing snow, some showing rain followed by a flash freeze. Going to have to wait another day or two

Yeah, Jenkins and the writer of the book that the movie is based on are from the same area in Florida. That doesn't mean the performances are beyond reproach. I thought the Mother seemed like she came from a sketch out of "In Living Color," and much of the rest of the cast had at least a thin layer of cheese to their performances. With that said, I thought Mahershala Ali and Ashton Sanders were amazing.

Movies are the only thing I love more than hockey (other than family and friends, of course), so I don't need a lesson in the power of them. I want to see stories that run the gamut. I should clarify that at least part of my pandering comment has to do with the way it was received, which has nothing to do with the movie itself. I think coming off the previous year's "#OscarSoWhite" controversy, people wanted to fall over themselves to love this movie. I'm not saying that's what you did.

Believe it or not, I actually do like the movie. I just didn't think it was a Best Picture winning, flawless, masterpiece.

Ah, I think we have a fundamental disagreement about movies as an artform. When I call Moonlight a masterpiece, I don’t mean to say that it’s technically perfect.

I think all movies have mistakes and messy inconsistencies. It’s fair to question the authenticity of the mother character. She’s actually who I thought of when I read that caricature criticism. For what it’s worth, Jenkins said that character was similar to his mother. So maybe we can trust his lived experience might inform an authentic portrayal?

Last, I generally have a low opinion of Hollywood/mainstream movies that go through the awards circuits. If anything, the Best Picture buzz made me skeptical prior to my viewing.

I never said or even implied movies should be technically perfect. From working on sets, I know that's impossible. "The Godfather" has such a glaring error in it during a fight scene, but that doesn't make me love it any less. I judge movies on all aspects. With that in mind, I liked Moonlight, but didn't love it.

Just had a call from card services someone in California is trying to use my debit card. Fraud is real be wary.

This just happened to my fiancé last week. Also I 3 friends had it happen to in the last year, one of them twice. Whoever passed the chip in the card had a lot of pull. It’s just going to get worse and worse.

First time for me but I was shocked to learn how many friends of mine this has happened to ( about 1/3 i talked to) but they never really mentioned it. You are correct though in it is only going to get worse.

I feel bad ripping people for liking comic movies now days. But i can’t help myself. I can’t see the entertainment value in them at all at this point. It’s just the same cheesey CGI junk over and over again

The content fits the book format a lot better IMO. Or an animated movie or TV show fits better than live action.

All my opinion of course.
Comic book movies work best for one offs and self contained stories in my opinion, small series that dont require much. Think The Dark Knight trilogy, original Superman movies, Raimi trilogy. Warner should have kept their movies a place for elseworlds stories and new ideas. The future of cinematic universes is better served in an episodic format. A true justice league story should not be confined to 3 hours. Imagine a 10 episode/10 hour epic justice league series as a conclusion to a few other seasons of DC superheroes. Its a much smoother transition from comic to tv. Daredevil should be the goal. They were never going to catch the MCU, they shouldnt have tried.

You can't condense a decade of cinematic worldbuilding into a handful of movies. You especially can't when your universe's shepherd is freaking Zack Snyder. Him and Michael Bay should not be allowed to adapt anything ever again. Hell, Snyder may actually be worse than Bay because Bay actually made some original movies that were entertaining if not Oscar material. The only original thing Snyder did was Sucker Punch and hooooo boy was that a pile of shit.

Incorrect, would be party trays of wawa food, some tasty cakes and soft pretzels, maybe a tub of water ice or two.

This was a funny occurrence the other day though. Throwing a party without the catering staff. But the candelabras were polished up nicely.

It’s early but I saw someone say it looks like we may be getting a big storm next weekend, and I start my first full time job out of college next Monday. I don’t want to start with that commute, please no.

Certainly depends on where you live. Location matters big time with this storm.

Could see some serious ice Sat into Sunday

Not being familiar with the comic, I enjoyed the SyFy adaptation of Deadly Class, pilot episode aired last night.

It seems like a fun twisted inversion of the anime My Hero Academia. Good times to be entertained.

Based off the latest I saw from Action News...looks like this is only a major storm closer to the Lehigh Valley? Philly will see mostly rain, and the immediate suburbs north and west will see a little bit of snow and then mostly rain?

For the most part yeah. Icing is a concern to me tho for Philly and the Lehigh Valley. Don’t know how much they said about it on the news
