I'm fascinated by this video footage of the 60th anniversary of Maple Leaf Gardens in November 1991, which I've only now found for the first time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhyVJR3qH74
It's great to view as a historical clip on some many levels:
1) The funky early 90's broadcast tunes typical of its time (2:24)
2) Past Leafs wearing tuxedos instead of jerseys as they come out to the ice. By the time of the closing of the Gardens in 1999, the past Leafs all wore jerseys, and they continue to do so today at ceremonies (4:26)
3) A "young" Johnny Bower. Certainly much younger than when he comes out to Leafs events today (5:05)
4) Ted Kennedy's presence, who I don't ever remember being a part of any ceremony at the ACC nor at the closing of the Gardens (6:22)
5) The scoreboard graphics of the early's 90's (9:02)
6) No one wearing a Leafs jersey in the crowd (9:37)
7) The singing of God Save the Queen! And the older people singing along. To me, it's unthinkable they would play this today. I've just never seen it done before (10:11)
8) No one cheering during the second half of O Canada
Thought you'd all enjoy if you like this kind of stuff like I do.
