Ha. Some will never be happy. Guess some people think we have picks 1-5 OA and we’re getting all picks who are flawless at 18 years old. Shhhssss tough to please

I'm not unhappy about anything, I don't know this kid from a brick, but when something is rated poorly in 3 out of 4 categories that seems not great.

Reliability: Poor
Safety: Below Average
Comfort: Below Average
Horsepower: Above average

Would you buy that car?

Not as my daily driver but it could serve a purpose that my other cars can't provide.

As a counter-point, Hockey Prospect did the following rankings. Note their rankings emulate how an NHL team does things - they rank 5 categories on a scale from 3-9. 9 is superstar.

Hockey Sense: 6
Compete: 7
Skill: 5
Skating: 6
Misc: 8 (this is usually stuff like size, strength, etc)

But is it a car or an industrial vehicle? Sometimes you gotta haul a load up a hill.

If there was ever a draft where a team can trade up for what they see is a particular need, this is the one to do it in. I don't think this team is going to be out a whole lot if Helenius is not what they are bargaining for and is nothing more than a 4th line banger and PKer. To my knowledge Blake hasn't traded any futures to move up, no big deal. But, if this kid meets or exceeds his draft projections, this is going to be a heluva pick.

I mean, if I just finished buying myself two sports cars earlier that afternoon, I might pick up a tank on my way out, yeah.

I’m sure you are very well respected in hockey/NHL for your teenage hockey player scouting skills, but I think I’m going to have to take Mark Yannetti’s word over yours on this one. At least for now.

I don’t have “a word” on this. As I said I know nothing about this kid. Dunno why you’re being cranky about it. If everyone thinks this is a great pick then great.

lol - nice cranky deflection.
I don’t know anything about the kid either. Just that he was highly ranked and Yannetti really wanted him. Sounds good to me. I’m happy. Now get to work kid and cause havoc on the NHL as a King!

It’s a swing pick. If he can put his skill set together to be at an NHL level he could be a helluva bottom 6 guy with that size. With our deep prospect pool it’s a swing we can take and lose no sleep if it misses.

If he's Pat Maroon then this is a huge win.

This team is set up to have a nice regular season eventually and then run into a team that punches them in the mouth in the playoffs to make them fold. Blake has not been drafting any sandpaper and will have to add that from outside the organization.

Nice to have someone that might be able to provide that in the pipeline v. having to pay for it later.

Here is info about him from “DraftPro 2021 NHL Draft Guide”:

Giant center that plays a professional two-way game.
Beast on the draw.
Shut down presence that can play with a physical edge.
Penalty killer specialist with a huge reach and smarts.
Quick hands in tight help him finish around the net.
Decent straight line speed, not the fastest first steps.
Has a cannon snap shot and slapper.
Underrated playmaker with a nice touch from the middle of the ice.

I really like this pick

Watching the Shift-by-Shift video, a couple things that, when compiled together, seems pretty remarkable.

- it's 15 minutes long. That's 2nd/3rd liner minutes. The Liiga is the top Finnish league
- they were down 4-0 in the first. But not a goal against with him on the ice.
- even more so, I didn't see a dangerous scoring chance against with his entire line

Again, this could just be a matchup thing. And just one period is a small sample (watching more), but things like that don't get talked about enough.
