Seven goal lead seems large. I wonder what the lead was after 50 games last season?

Last season OV was at 30 goals after 50 games.

William Karlsson was at 27 goals after 50 games and I believe he was 2nd. So, 3 goals.

Just to see Point's name up there hanging with the big dogs brings a 'proud mama' tear to this old Lightning fan's eyes. :DD

Sure, Ovi will undoubtably win the Rocket as he's just been absolutely phenomenal forever, but it's been great to see Point's development into a top forward in this League and into our premiere shutdown center.

It would be fantastic to see Point hit 50 goals.

For fun I went back to Ovi's 65 goal season back in 07-08 and found that, as of 01/24 (50 games) he had 39 goals, only two ahead of now.

Wacky stuff. I obviously don't think he'll hit 60 again because that would be insane, but to see this kind of production at his age is just remarkable

I wish Arvidsson had not gotten hurt, I really think he would have had a chance. Still might break 35, dispite missing 22 games, he's scoring at a .68 gpg, which would pace him at just shy of 40 for this season, or 56 over a full season.

Between now and 01/24/18 only Ovy (57) and McDavid (55) scored +50. Laine follows not too far at 48.

As much as I love Point, I'd bet on Stamkos hitting 50 first.

So took a quick look at Ovechkin's numbers in the last 31 games he played in every season so far, and the worst he did in any of those 31 games was 8 goals. That would give Ovechkin 45 goals this season.

In any other season he's played so far he's scored enough in his last 31 games so that it would make him hit 50 goals this season if he goes on a similar run.

So basically a 12/13 chance that Ovechkin will hit 50 if you base it on his history...

Speaking of Point, Tampa's draft history and development pattern sure is impressive. Brayden Point drafted #79 overall. Nikita Kucherov drafted #58 overall. Ondřej Palát drafted #208 overall. Wasn't Yanni Gourde undrafted?

Yes, he was! Al Murray and his scouting team have been phenomenal for us.

We're not that great with our first rounders (other than Vasy) as we tend to trade them away.
:P

But the scouting team does tend to find absolute gems in the later rounds. Especially ones that were overlooked or dropped down due to size or country of origin.

Ovie's been playing awesome hockey this season again. Should be another Rocket for him this yr. I believe he'll get 60 goals exactly. As to other 50 goal scorers I think Skinner gets there as well.
