Sweden
The US - Sweden game is pretty much as expected with the US dominating the game, Alexander Popovic(replaced Söderström) has Sweden's lone goal.

Not impressive. They will face tough competition, I expect lobsided losses.

The 2 underagers could be the leaders already.

2001 looks like a historically bad year for us, maybe even worse than 1998. Hopefully things will get brighter again, as soon as the 2002 class takes over the U18 team next year.

Stream is constantly freezing so I'm just occasionally reading the official sports commentary... yikes.

"After 2/3, the Czech team is doing fantastic! We're only losing 1-2."

I mean, better down one than five, but doesn't success involve something like, I don't know, actually winning the game?

98 and 01 are definitely looking like the worst classes in quite some time. The results on every level are/were alarmingly bad. Nonetheless, both pools offer promising projects, but nobody ready to take over on junior level. (Miranda was strong though last year, he still has NHL-upside, but a long way to go)

Bigger concern is, that the top4 and, for a few years now, Finland have run away with their junior programs, and the Czech Rep. seems to slowly turn the ship around too. And while Switzerland stagnates, Slovakia recently seems a bit stronger, and Germany closes the gap quickly.

I think, the Swiss Federation does a fine job with the junior development from U16 until U20. They have learned a lot over the last 10 years. The times are gone with Coaches, who only coach for results and job safety and aren't interested in letting them acctually try stuff and make mistakes. The problem is, that apart from a few exceptions the deficit in skill and decision making, when they join the U16, is remarkable and increasing. It's up to the Clubs to improve the situation, if we wanna see a change soon.

And regarding the 02 and the U-18, the results and the depth on attack are good plus Delemont on defense, but if the Germans are there next year (and the Swiss aren't relegated this year), I think, they could be superior. Even if Rochette would be available, Im not sure the Swiss could ice a 1st Line, eg. 03er Reichle-Rochette-Knak, that matches Elias-Stützle-Reichel. The few games, I've seen them play, they looked fantastic.

The Germans are on our tail, no question about that. Its somewhat amazing to me how the havent been able to establish themselves in the top divison on U18/20 level. As for the 2002 Germans you mentioned, i have only seen them in a U17 tournament last year where they were absolutely amazing but probably overperformed a little bit. I think its a good thing when upcoming nations like Germany are starting to threaten us. We have been in nomansland between the top six and the rest for to long. I hope this developement will make the clubs and federation see that you have to keep improving your hockey program all the time if you don't want to fall behind.
