One game? I'm talking about play that went back to last year and this entire season.
Santini didn't do anything last year to surpass Severson. Santini looks very good, but there's no comparison. Severson is easily the most underappreciated player on the team. And lets not forget he's 1 year older than Will Butcher lol.

He's got potential but the kid has serious aspects of his game he needs to work on. Plus we just gave him a shot load of money so I think people have the right to be critical of his play when it's not up to par.

If Severson was above average defensively on top of being good offensively (which he is), he'd be a legit #1 DMan.

I think you're both right.

On most NHL teams, however, Severson would likely be a 2nd pairing guy. Defense is still the Devils team weakness.

I disagree with every aspect of this post. No he's not under appreciated he's the guy who gets the benefit of the doubt more than any other player from a certain percentage of this fan base.

I really don't want this thread to get off topic I'm just so happy to be able to watch a good and exciting team for the first time in a while. Therefore I'm gonna refrain from getting into this topic anymore. I'm not gonna change certain people mind and they won't change mind so I'll leave it be.

You think Steve Santini has already surpassed him. Yes, he's very underappreciated.

Exhibit A for why Corsi is worthless.

Exhibit B is be the fact the Oilers have the best Team Corsi in the entire NHL, and the 2nd worst record in the entire NHL.
I don't think it's worthless in context. Santini's coris isn't very impressive until you realize the amount of minutes he plays, who he plays against and how often he plays in the offensive zone. 14% offensive zone starts is an insane stat considering he played 25 minutes last night.

Yes and just watch how the season progresses. He'll be getting more minutes and more specifically the more imprortant minutes. if I'm wrong call me out on it.
I hope he ends up surpassing Severson. That means he's really really good. But you have to realize he's gonna have to do a lot to add more value to this team than Severson.

I don't see how that's true at all. Butcher has surpassed him on the PP depth chart. Plus Butcher is the only defensman who plays less time on the PK. I don't believe he's gonna have to play nearly as good as you think.

We don't see the same thing when we watch. Let's just agree to disagree, because we will never reach a consensus.

I root for the kid, he has so much talent and is still young, I'm just not sure what's between his ears. And I believe that the current management may not be as patient with him. Ever since Shero got here he seems to have a short leash with picks that were made by Lou and Conte. I'm not saying they're going to trade him, however, I wouldn't say it's out of the question. Especially, say they sign a UFA like Carlson in July.

I think Corsi's more useful for forwards than defensemen, corsi is biased toward offensive defensemen which isn't the only or even primary job of a defenseman. LIke BG or whoever said corsi penalizes shot blocking which is also useful and shot prevention in the defensive zone.

That's why you have to look deeper than just the corsi percentage.

Santini's shot against attempts events was 23 and Severson's was 19. But Santini's is more impressive since he played more, started in the offensive zone far less, and played against the better competition.

At what point do we consider ourselves out of the Dahlin sweepstakes? I know we can miss the playoffs and have a chance at him, but I don’t see this team finishing bottom three barring multiple injuries or the team plane going down.

Bratt made a couple of key plays

Devils started 9-3-3 last season.
With an AHL roster.

This is an NHL roster
With Hynes preaching all of training camp about being a harder team to play against and playing for each other, you can’t be too upset with the penalty he took. The timing wasn’t great, but I’m never one to ***** about guys sticking up for each other.

Fast. Attacking. Supportive. :D

Last year's power play was
Lax. Slacking. Abortive.

I'm glad we took a step forward this year so far.
PP was formerly unwatchable and we still have some stinkers time to time.

We're never out of it as long as we have lottery ball specialist Taylor Hall.:wg:

Way too early to think we are out of it and Dahlin isn’t the only prize in this years draft. Top 10 is going to be loaded.

Looks like we're #1 ranked PP atm, just over 30% with 5 teams or so bunched up around 28-29%
PK needs some help at #25
Looking great on GF, on GA not so much but not at the bottom either
