Sandstrom should've had the winner, but people were ready to blame this one on him at 3-0 when we got blitzed early on. Nobody was stopping those. Now he'll sit there for 3 games while Hart plays, then there will be an All-Star break, and in the meantime, Ersson will play regularly for the Phantoms and gain experience. Everything is fine.

Sandstrom was shaky in the 1st period, then held the fort until the bad goal.
That's been his problem, stretches of athletic play where he looks like a potential starter, then opps.
However, part of the issue has been injuries which have limited his PT and thus his development.
2017-18: 19 games between SHL and Allsvenskan
2018-19: 19 games SHL, 1 AHL
2019-20: 25 games ECHL, 1 AHL
2020-21: 11 games AHL, 5 games Allsvenskan
2021-22: 44 AHL, 5 NHL
2022-23: 10 NHL, 7 AHL

So 146 games over 6 years.

Compare to Ersson
2017-18: 49 games
2018-19: 53 games
2019-20: 35 SHL games
2020-21: 47 SHL games
2021-22: 5 AHL games (injured)
2022-23: 7 NHL, 19 AHL
One reason to leave Ersson in the AHL is to play a lot of games, preparing him to be 1A next season.

Goalie apologist here: stopping any of the first 3 goals would have been Highlight of the Night material and Sandstrom made several big stops to keep the score close. Goal 4 was weak but not entirely his fault; the Flyer (I forget who) checking Kuhlman got a piece of the puck while Kuhlman was pulling it to go around Sandstrom and redirected its trajectory. You can see Sandstrom following where the puck was going to go with his stick. That being said, a more conservative slide would have kept his pad along the puck trajectory and likely stopped the redirect.

Blame for the loss falls squarely at the feet of the kindergarten fire drill approach the Flyers took for defense.

Did you see Torts interview after the game . He was like a spoiled little brat getting his toy taken away . He was pissy cause of the turnovers and lack of concern to play D by some . Reality is it was one but Torts keeps putting him out and expecting a different result .

He benched TDA for a couple periods and even a game and when he comes back he plays a little more responsible for a game or two . Then returns to high risk no concern for his own end again .

On the opposite end of the scale is York . Seen him down below the oppositions net , joining the rush but rarely gets caught up or turns the puck over on breakouts , always seems to do the smart thing . Last night York was plus 1 while TDA is minus 4 and all 4 were on him . York +9 on the year TDA -15 on the season .

Now i know plus minus can be a bit misleading but on a full season that is a 50 spread . That is like a guy at even and another at minus 50 . Torts talks accountability but it seems to be very mislead a lot of times . After that 2 on 1 goal which was good ole Tony caught up the ice again he should have been stapled to the bench , not repeatedly put back out the keep f$%kin up .

There , that's my rant for the day . I feel much better now .

TDA is getting enough rope to hang himself.
York is already getting more PP time.

However, there's also a problem of fit, Sanheim - TDA is just not a good fit, look for Risto to move up with Sanheim at some point, and Seeler - TDA become the third pair. TDA needs a defensive partner to cover for him, Sanheim does not fit that role.

Provorov - York has become a solid first pair, the less you ask Provorov to do in terms of puck handling and driving the offense, the better he plays.

The weird thing about Provorov - TDA is they had horrid metrics but were positive in GF/GA. Go figure.
