Preview

The New York Islanders are off to a fast start, and they're in position to hand the Chicago Blackhawks their first three-game winless streak since February 2012 when the teams meet at the United Center on Friday night.

Hart Trophy finalist John Tavares scored his first two goals of the season as he joined a balanced Islanders attack. Four New York players have at least four points, and nine have scored goals.

Michael Grabner leads the way with two goals and four assists, three of which came against Phoenix. He had five assists in 45 games last season.

Chicago (1-1-1) last went three games without a victory during a three-game losing streak Feb. 23-26, 2012. It's on the verge of matching that slide after a 3-2 defeat at St. Louis on Wednesday.

The Blackhawks are 4 for 11 on the power play while the Islanders are 3 for 10. New York, though, has killed off 6 of 7 short-handed situations while Chicago has killed just 4 of 9 after allowing a league-low 18 power-play goals during the lockout-shortened 2013 season.

The Blackhawks have won the past three matchups with the Islanders, getting four goals and two assists from Patrick Sharp. The teams last met Dec. 8, 2011 at Nassau Coliseum, a 3-2 Blackhawks win in which Sharp had two goals and an assist.

Nabokov has struggled in his last six games against Chicago, going 1-2-3 with a 4.00 goals-against average.

Cool GDT! I just want to see the Islanders compete and make it a close game. Stealing a point or two would be a bonus!

This game will be a real test to see how this Isles team is

the Hawks are going to have their A game, after they lost their last 2 games in a heart breaking fashion, they are not going to lose 3 in a row

If the Isles can somehow compete with them for at least 2 periods, then I think this is a real team

if the Isles are going to get blown out 3-0 in the first 10 minutes, then I am thinking we have alot more work to do

I think Khabibulin is in net for the Hawks. It's obviously going to be a tough game for the defense/Nabokov, hopefully they bring their A game.

I am guessing we play Nabakov against Chicago but chances are Poulin plays one of the 2 games this weekend

I reallllllllllllly hope cappy makes the smart move and sits Bouchard over Nelson. Staple reported its between those two for Clutterbuck to get into the lineup. It's gonna be tough but this game is winnable... Keep the point streak going and lets get 2!

Would rather see Okposo sit over either of them. Clutterbuck is basically Okposo with more hitting, better skating and more offensive skill. (Not hard considering Okposo's offensive skill is like a 3/10)

I really don't think Kyle has played anywhere close to as poorly as Bouchard.

Nice GDT. Now as for the game, this is going to be a real fun game to watch. We get to see if we can beat the Stanely Cup Champs on their ice.

Nice GDT MM!

did you even read what you just wrote? okposo at the very least is a 40 point player. in clutterbuck's best season he scored 34 points.

Clutterbuck is not more skilled than Okposo, especially offensively. Sure he is a hitting machine, but he isn't a great passer, and puts himself out of position to hit someone.

Very nice GDT. I like it. As for the game, let's go Isles! Can't go down early on this team, they'll run away with it. The first line needs to play better, simple as that. I want Nelson over Bouchard. Bouchard hasn't impressed me at all. Still wish KO wasn't on the first line, put Bailey on JT's wing.
This game is a big test and a win would be huge for this team, confidence wise.

Anyone else think we should roll with Poulin in this game? Chicago will have their back up in and I just have a bad feeling that Nabby wouldn't do so well against such a high scoring team.
