Is the younger Saarela good? As good as his brother?

Finland with 1-3 win over Russia and 5-1 win over Sweden. Looks like a really good age group overall. Anton Lundell has scored 3+1 in these two games.

Yeah if 2018 looks bad, 2019 looks a lot better. Probably not many real stars (Kokkonen, Aaltonen probably) but overall depth is good. It's quite early though.

I'd say that Henri Nikkanen and Kaapo Kakko are the top Finns for 2019 draft right now. Nikkanen has size, skill, speed and smarts. Kakko is pretty much the same, just doesn't have the same kind of vision as Nikkanen has as a centre.

Personally I'm less optimistic about Mikko Kokkonen and Leevi Aaltonen. Kokkonen is a 5'11'' tall defenseman with average feet, not a good combo if he doesn't grow anymore.

A smaller player needs to be extra special to succeed at the highest level and it's possible that Aaltonen is lacking that -extra- part of the equation. I believe that at 15-16 years old Toni Rajala was more talented offensively than Aaltonen is right now.

You could say this about almost every Finnish player like Rantanen, aho etc who are now playing in NHL. Nothing happened in Rajala's progression from 16 year old forward so i think this is pretty pointless point.

From all the hyped Finnish prospects in the last decade, Toni Rajala is the most similar as a player with Leevi Aaltonen: A small winger with speed.

Some smaller forwards peaked a bit earlier, guys like Rajala, Pulkkinen, Järveläinen, Tanus and Saarela. Some smaller forwards peaked a bit later, guys like Teräväinen and Markus Granlund.

Aaltonen had great results early on, but others are clearly catching up and one might say that guys like Nikkanen and Kakko have already surpassed him. This might indicate that Aaltonen is more of an early developer than not and therefore belongs to the first group mentioned above, the same group with Rajala.

Watching today’s U16 game against the Czechs, there were several forwards who were better than Aaltonen. And when looking at the tournament as a whole, I’d say that at least Nikkanen, Kakko, Miettinen and Lundell had a greater impact to the game than Aaltonen. One should expect a lot more from such a highly regarded prospect.
