What about a 3way package deal?
To Anaheim: Kadri + Brown
To Carolina: Sprong + Timashov
To Toronto: Ferland + Montour
Anaheim trades Sprong and Montour for Kadri and Brown
Carolina trades Ferland for Sprong and Timashov
Toronto trades Kadri, Brown and Timashov for Ferland and Montour
I feel all parties walk away happy and get what they need.
Anaheim gets a cost effective 2nd line center that can get under opponents skin. They also get a reliable bottom 6 winger who is defensively responsible with a history of 20 goals under his belt.
Carolina gets 2 talented forward prospects (one whom is playing relatively well at the NHL level) for a player who will most likely walk for nothing (if they can’t get him signed on the dotted line).
Toronto gets their coveted RHD who can grow with the team (and makes Gardiner expendable). They also get a little bit of sandpaper in the top 6 who can contribute offensively.
IMO Toronto would still need to add a gritty 3rd and 4th line center, but they would be relatively inexpensive in comparison.
