I think everyone is getting a little to specific with the criteria for what makes a player this or that.
Lalonde's best attribute is his ability to get the puck up ice, or carry the puck up ice. It's always been his strength and likely always will with his skating ability. Pretty clearly, he's a puck-moving-Dman, but obviously if you can move the puck that doesn't mean you can't play responsible in your own end.
pretty much this.
I think the term PMD gets thrown around wayyyyy too much on these boards. There is a reason why there is a shortage of true PMD dmen out there, and why a guy like Alex Goligoski got a king's ransom back in that Pitt-Dallas trade.
I think people need not worry about specific labels with players as many players usually move away from those tags they got drafted for and evolved into slightly different players.
I mean how many 110 point players are in the NHL right now, and how many 110 point players got drafted out of all the CHL the last few years?? Sometimes players simply have to evolve just to make it to the NHL, especially offensive minded young dmen.
I like Lalonde a lot, you can look that up in any of my posts, I just dont think he should be labeled as a PMD, and I dont feel he will be one in the NHL.
I like the Clendening pick and look forward to his progression over the next few years.
