Another small PMD type
Not a terrible player and comes from good school while showing alot of heart/hard work
Still I would have liked to avoid another small PMD
don't know anything about him
My thoughts too but Paliotta and Dahlbeck are both shut down guys. I like the pick. His production speaks for itself.
I don't know anything about him. I actually thought he looked taller and bigger relative to some of the other prospects when they showed him until I looked up his measurables. I guess what I'm saying is while short he seemed to have a pretty good frame and isn't that undersized
5-11 190 isn't too awfully small.
Really didn't see this one coming. Figured we had enough of this type of prospect in the system but I guess not.
I wouldnt consider him small, but he isnt overly big or physical either.
What is wrong with PMD??? Like there are tons of those guys floating around out there.
With Clendening you are getting a kid that was highly regarded a year and a half ago as a top 15 pick. Like Saad he fell a bit due to some concerns. With Clendening his skating isnt elite and that is his issue for a PMD. His vision, playmaking ability, and shot are all high end, but for whatever the reason I never liked his skating.
He is on the same level as Nick Leddy and should pan out even bigger the Leddy weight wise as well. The kid just finished up his freshman year for BU, and he pretty much was their go to guy by years end.
This is a very talented player that will have 2 more years to grow at BU and turn into an elite offensive defenseman. This kid isnt going to be anywhere near the Hawks in the next two years so I dont get why anyone would have an issue with a PMD as we might be needing one by then with only Leddy likely being that guy.
There is a lot to like with Clendening as well as some viable concerns. One thing I will say is his defensive positioning and overall defensive work is very good. Though his bread and butter is offense, this kid still plays a very safe and solid overall game that I think will make his transition to the pros even easier then many of the other PMD's that do struggle at first.
This is a player that will need some time and will get it, but in a years time I think many on here will be singing a different tune with this kid as he will no doubt be a part of the US WJC squad this year and be a big part of BU as a sophmore.
Like this pick very much as well. Just be patient we might get rewarded big time.
and who would those guys be?
then only legit PMD's we now have are Nick Leddy and Brian Connelly. I really dont consider Lalonde as a PMD at this point. And in 2-3 years time when this kid does turn pro, we might not have any of these guys around so I got no beef with this at all.
you don't consider Lalonde as a PMD?
you were the guy that liked Potulny signing right? or what about Davis
Lalonde is a PMD. He is nothing else.
so Lalonde is nothing else but a PMD? really?
and you are the guy in love with Kruger 24/7, who may never ever pan out, whats your point?
Lalonde is not just a PMD, he is a two way defensemen but I would not consider him a PMD as he has more to offer then that.
Do you consider Keith just a PMD?
I dont consider Lalonde just a PMD which is what is being stated,. He has many offensive traits that I would consider him a semi PMD, but no way is that the only thing Lalonde will be known for.
and dont worry, when Kruger is washing dishes at some resturante in 3 years, I will make sure that any time you have an opinion I will throw that in your face as well because you have never backed a wrong horse before....I have been right a hell of alot more then I have been wrong, got no problems with taking a swing now and again and missing. at least I dont have a Justin Bieber crush on Kruger for the love of God...
According to THN, some scouts think that if Clendening had played in Jr, he'd had put up Ryan Murphy type stats.
What would you consider Lalodne as then? An undersized stay at home guy?
That's great to hear. Could have gotten a potential gem.
For people (like me) who didn't really know of Clendening before selecting him, another plus about his is that he's a RHS which should be good for us in a potentiall PP QB.
A write up on Clendening. I like the sentence..
Clendening doesn't look as smooth a skater as Shattenkrik, just from YT video's I've watched.
here is what you said
If I look at this... Lalonde is no PMD. If he isn't a PMD... what kind of Player is Lalonde?
He stated pretty clearly that he sees Lalonde as a two way guy. Can't say I disagree with him from what I've seen.
Lalonde was more a PMD in juniors, but in my opinion he's really starting to buckle down and work on his defense first.
You know, if you're a PMD who can do other things, you're still a PMD.
Campbell worked on his d too... Is he now a two-way dmen? And just because he thinks that lalonde isn't only a pmd its true? He is in rockford to round out his game and get better on the things he can't.
I think everyone is getting a little to specific with the criteria for what makes a player this or that.
Lalonde's best attribute is his ability to get the puck up ice, or carry the puck up ice. It's always been his strength and likely always will with his skating ability. Pretty clearly, he's a puck-moving-Dman, but obviously if you can move the puck that doesn't mean you can't play responsible in your own end.
I go to BU, Clendening really progressed as the season went on, great vision and shot from the blue line and has good hockey IQ: never made bad pinches, didn't miss coverage, great PP QB, etc.
He ended up probably our best defenseman by year's end and he was only a freshman. He put up almost a .7 PPG with a very slow start due to limited icetime. Definitely not a bad pick.
I hate this kids face
The London Knights own this kids rights in the OHL and I know they tried their hardest to get him to report. They absolutely love the kid so I was stoked to see the Hawks draft him
