It's not like it was totally meritless after 2 periods (besides maybe Parable), but I just hate benching the 3 youngest players.....1) Oskar has finally been getting back to normal these last weeks......2) Patrick has seen a slight trend upward this week, along with his impactful goal last game......and 3) weirdest of all, Parable, who is one of your best night in and night out, and just got pathetically lumped in due to age.

The coaches can pat themselves on the back because the top dogs dragged them kicking and screaming into a comeback -- unless Scott Laughton and Justin Braun actually shortened the bench, since apparently they handled coaching duties in the 3rd -- but I better not see any shit continue into this game. Especially with how reluctant they have been these last 2 seasons to shorten the bench with dregs and roll lines when trailing. Remember: in a 3 goal deficit, 3rd period game last week, Nate Prosser was still getting regular shifts to embarrass himself.

But we did win the game, and we did watch as the veterans went into beast mode. The young guys could take note. I don’t give a shit what Braun and Laughton SAID, Giroux went out and played the way a captain and leader should play. His effort level all damn game was impeccable. Take notes young fellas.

easy win formular:

AV and his buddies stay out of the locker room and let Laughton and Braun say what need to be said. We will win 9:0 and sign the coaches to a 15 year contract extension!

Did i do it right?

It worked for one game, but AV knows he can't ride 33 year old Giroux like that (he's tried to limit his minutes) through this compacted schedule. But it was a must win game, to have any chance of the playoffs they needed to win both Sabres games and 3 of 5 from the Isles and Bruins.

I don't think they have a chance, b/c they start every game essentially a goal or more down (the bad goals that their goalies will inevitably give up).

But they finished the 2017-18 season 7-1-3 to make the playoffs, Elliott started 2 games, Neuvirth 1 (relieved by Mzarek), Mrazek 5, Lyon 3 (relieved Mrazek once, relieved by Mrazek once). Hakstol does not get enough credit for that "miracle" finish.

That was not a good team, a top first line, Simmonds and Filppula on the 2nd line, 19 year old Patrick centering the 3rd line, TK, Weal and Raffl filling out the top 9, and Laughton, Lehtera, Weise and Leier bringing up the rear, with Lindblom coming up for 23 games. Defense wasn't much better, solid first pair with Provorov - Ghost, then AMac, Hagg and Manning, with Gudas and Sanheim settling in as the 3rd pair in the 2nd half of the season.

It's a miracle they got to six games against the Pens, goalies put up a .852 S%.

I will find it funny if the flyers come out and play poorly. Who do they waive? Who gets the blame? It seems as if it’s passed around to every player, excluding some, and not to the coaches at all.
