Doing this in a podcast is near impossible. It would probably go on for days and not hours, and our schedules don't exactly line up.

So, what we are doing is a several part series covering everything from players, to expansion draft to entry draft, to who should stay and who should go.

When we talked about how we would do David Krejci and the pros and cons of trading him, we thought that a point-counter point piece, similar to what Kirk and I did in the largely popular article in drafting Zachary Senyshyn.

As new posts go up, I will add them. But we began here:

Part 1 Kirk looks at Bruce Cassidy, Charlie McAvoy https://scoutingpost.com/2017/04/24/bruins-are-out-whats-next-part-1/

Part 2: Reed takes a quick look into the expansion draft https://scoutingpost.com/2017/04/25/reed-duthie-bruins-are-out-whats-next-part-2/

Part 3: I look at Ryan Spooner, Matt Beleskey, Kevin Miller, Riley Nash, and Jimmy Hayes https://scoutingpost.com/2017/04/26/dominic-tiano-whats-next-for-the-bruins-part-3/

Read them all earlier today (no life) and really enjoyed all the contributions, thanks

Great stuff. Already got me pumped for Draft/Expansion/Awards.

Hayes can be bought out, or sent to AHL for essentially the same money (just 1 or split between 2 years) so not worried about that.

I think the 2 keys to the offseason will be getting a RW shot for relatively cheap (i.e. not Backes money and length), maybe someone like Eaves could do it. And also finding a home for MB39. With the glut of LW prospects knocking on the door, maybe that is what it would take for LV to take him for expansion: agree to send them Heinen or DeBrusk. That would free up so much $$, they could go after an Oshie for RW. Even if Beleskey bounces back, where does he play? 4th line, taking away minutes from Accairi/Nash or 3rd line, taking away from Vatrano/Heinen/Cehlarik/Debrusk? Not a good situation.

Good articles Dom...Thanks!

I learned something new today, and agree with you on sending Hayes down to Providence for the season, and save a million $$ on the cap.

Great stuff Dom. Can't the B's sign/qualify one more contract since they automatically lose at least one contract to Vegas.

A couple questions for you too.

How likely/willing will Vegas be to take bad contracts if teams add prospects/draft picks to the kitty?

Are teams actually going to make some deals to avoid losing players for nothing in the expansion draft?

1) Yes, unless Vegas sign one of the UFA's. And remember, I used the "high end of 47"

2) GMGM has said he's already had talks with every GM and had preliminary talks about deals "to take player x" or "to not not player Y"

3) absolutely, yes.

Good stuff Dom

You nailed a few things in our chat that came up in the press conference- nice job

Bradley is a very smart way to go. I know you always have had a lot of respect for him

Love the additions to Kirk's blog

We need to stop talking because even the things I don't want to happen, happen

What to do with Chara

If Chara wants to give it another go, it probably means Patrice Bergeron will have to wait just a little bit longer before he gets to wear the “C,†but in our eyes- the duo has been the face of the franchise’s leadership for more than a decade. For the right value on an extension beyond 2018, we’re all for letting that continue, because when Chara is gone, we may not ever see another like him in Boston again.

Why would the Bruins necessarily need to extend him? If the team is willing to keep him on, and he is willing to stay in Boston, why not just give him a new 1 -year deal after this coming season and go on from there? I don't see him declining massively next season, but at the same time, he might also be one injury away from not being able to come back to an acceptable level- I am talking an age-related recovery here, where a man ten or fifteen years younger would be able to make a return. If he is signed to an extension over the summer and then gets hurt in November and can no longer play, we are on the hook for extension with no player. Doesn't appear to make sense, so what would the advantages be of offering an extension instead of 1 year renewals for as long he can and wants to play?

It’s obvious, and General Manager Don Sweeney has stated as much, that one area of concern the Boston Bruins should look to address during the offseason is the goaltending situation. There is no questioning that Tuukka Rask is the de facto number one. Barring a major trade, that position is set in stone. Although it’s been said that the Bruins were in discussions at the 2015 draft in a possible Rask deal, there will be no such discussion this summer.

The real undertaking will come in the form of the back-up goaltender. The Bruins are in need of a player who could spell Rask of some 25-30 games next season and provide reasonable success, unlike the debacle that played out this season until Anton Khudobin found his stride very late into the campaign. If the Bruins are to make the playoffs comfortably and not wait until the last week of the season to qualify, then this is quite possibly the single biggest issue Sweeney and the front office need to address.

Solid per usual Dom. Can you elaborate on why Subban has a shot at the big club given the competition that you describe? What have you seen in him that others have overlooked?

Since I brought it up, only fair that I answer your question.

First off, I don't think he has a shot (well barring something big) for 2017-2018. I think with Subban, the injury he suffered played a bigger role than even he cares to admit. I don't think anyone can say seriously that he wasn't well on his way prior to the injury. I, and many others think he was.

Did he bomb in his NHL starts? Most definitely he did. But I would also argue that he was not ready for NHL starts and never should have been given those starts, but we know all to well how the Bruins were trying to find a stopper behind Rask.

What I do know, and have known for the past 6 or 7 years is the fire, will, and determination that burns inside of him and for that reason alone I won't count him out yet. Whether that's with Boston or another team, well that will be determined in the near future.

As for my comment on the smaller equipment affecting Subban the least: I and many others believe, and it's open for debate until we actually see it happen, that the more athletic goaltenders won't be as effected by the reduction. While the less athletic and more technical goaltenders rely more on the "size", the athletic goaltenders will continue to rely on the mobility and ability to react.

Just my opinion, but of the 4 Bruins goaltenders he is the most athletic and for the reasons I mentioned, probably the least effected by it.

Kirk takes a look at the young guns that will make the push

We hope you’re enjoying the offseason series on the Boston Bruins. There’s more in the works, but this post will quickly break down several of the forward prospects who could be ready for a bigger impact/contribution with the B’s in 2017-18. Now granted- we still need to see who comes and goes when the roster shaping period begins in earnest on and after 1 July, but for now- here are just a few players we think are going to push the coaching staff to either get them into the lineup sooner rather than later, or will make the decision to send them down a tough one.

There is no doubt the Bruins want/need to address the backup goalie situation, ideally with someone who can play competitively 30+ games. The question is how much cap is management willing to commit to goaltending?
