Literally gives me chills watching the end of that game. I know it's coming and as soon as the puck is at the net mouth and everyone's wacking away. Henrique! It's over! Literally chills.

Am I wrong to suspect that younger Devils fans care way more about this game than older Devils fans?

It was cool and all, but they didnt win the cup, so this game doesnt really hold much significance in my fandom life given the 3 Stanley Cup Championships from 1995 to 2003.

This game is still up there in the top 5 for me though that I've attended. 03 cup game at home will always be my #1 unless we pull out some win at home like that in the future.

The combination of overtime, knocking out the Rangers and heading to the finals blew the place off the Prudential Center and it's still the loudest I've ever heard the new building. I've also never hugged as many strangers as I did that night. It was pure joy.

Absolutely sucks we didn't win the Cup but it still doesn't tarnish that experience for me.

It remains one of the most memorable moments mainly 'cause it was against the Rags.

If it was against any other team, I wouldn't hold it in as much high regard.

Devils had the power to prevent the Rags and their annoying fans to get to the Finals that year.

And they did and may have saved us all the vomit-inducing indignity of watching them LUCK their way to a Stanley Cup against the Kings.

Zajac is the only guy left from that team.:puppy:
And that's honestly probably because he wants to be here. If he didn't have the NTC I'd bet he'd be gone by now too. Hopefully greener pastures lie ahead because this because a shit team is exhausting as a fan. Just watching the 2012 ECF game winner last night made me realize how desperately I want to route for a winning hockey team instead of the calamity we've turned into.

If anyone is 17 and under that was the peak of their fandom (2012). Hell even if you go back to the 2000 cup win you've got be like 25 to really get it and even then you'd be 5 at the time of that win. Like I said, I'm 34 and 95 I barely remember but 2000 and 2003 were the pinnacle. 2012 beating the Flyers and Rangers was close but not on that level for me least.

I was fortunate to have been born in '77 so when the Devils won the Cup in 2000, I was 23 at the time (I became a Devils fan in '99 so I missed the '95 Cup win though I watched highlights of it years later).

I still remember 2000 and Arnott's shot off a brilliant pass by Patty to this day. Unfortunately, I also remember Derian Hatcher laying out Sykora as well (glad the Devils let him skate with the Cup this season to tie up that bit of unfinished business. That was great to see!).

The 2003 Cup I remember one player : Jeff "BRRRRRR!" Friesen. :D

I also remember Marty struggling a bit in one of those games and letting in goals he shouldn't have.

In addition, I remember the constant ass-kissing of Giguere(the whole "getting Giggy with it" by the Hockey Media was annoying) so it was doubly satisfying watching the Devils win...and Giggy getting the Conn Smythe as some kind of "Thanks for Playing" prize.

Observation #3: Part of the reason the crowd seemed outstanding was because we had R&R Part 2 instead of the generic-sounding rock Goal-song we have.

Replacing that song with something the crowd could barely participate in(if, at all) was a big mistake.

Hell, they couldn't have found a song that had the crowd clapping along with it?

It remains a sore point with me to this day and is the reason I despise Hugh Weber who was at the center of that Goal-song change to begin with.
R&R Pt 2 had nothing to do with it lol. They were good and won the ECF. They could've played Baby Shark and it still would've been electric.

People will sing to and along with Baby Shark. I put in on in a Bar and grown ass men and women were singing and dancing to it.

I'd be all for Baby Shark myself instead of the Generic-sound we have now.

Might as well have NO Goal Song play and it will be the same thing as far as Crowd participation goes.

I think the game in the 03 SCF that Marty struggled in was game 3. He let in that bad goal to Ozolinsh on the dump in that will be remembered forever and I feel like the Ruslan Salei OT winner might have been a bad one too. I can’t remember if that was a one timer or not. It was off a faceoff and from really far out. I remember Marty actually got one of the games 3 stars that night, which was really ironic because of the really bad goal, the fact he gave up 3 goals to Giguere’s 2 (if I recall correctly Giguere did not get one of the 3 stars of the game that night) and the fact that it was in Anaheim. It was almost like they gave him a star to make fun of him for that goal. That always seemed weird to me.

I still have a theory that the really bad goal in game 3 cost him the Conn Smythe. Or at least played a part in it.

The only other goal that would fall under my stoppable that he allowed in that series was probably the famous Paul Kariya goal in game 6. It was from way out above the circles and whizzed by his glove. At the same time, that was one of the best shots I saw that entire playoffs. Paul Kariya looked like Ovechkin on that goal.

I remember Ziggy Palffy scoring a similar goal on Marty earlier that year and it was an OT winner and I was much less impressed.

The Kariya goal was definitely not the muffin that was the Scott Stevens goal on Khabibulin in game 4 of that Tampa series, that’s for sure. That was one of the lousiest goals of the 2003 playoffs, aside from the bad goal on Marty in game 3 of the SCF and some of the hideous Roman Cechmanek softies. That goal was bad enough that it got Khabibulin benched for John Grahame I’m game 5 when the Lightning were on the brink. Torts famously said something like “I have my reasons” when asked about why Grahame was starting.

Him getting pulled in Game 6 cost him the Conn Smythe (also I believe they took the vote early that night during game 7).

If the Devils in Game 4 in OT, Marty has three shutouts in the Final going into the clincher rather getting his third in the decider.

what a weird comment

I should've said a little more. The first part is meant as a sincere compliment - they clearly look like a couple with a lot of chemistry which I find impressive however many years into their marriage. The second half is my wishful thinking, though yeah, I think it's unlikely he's going to win a cup.

I don’t think him getting pulled in game 6 cost him the Conn Smythe, but the fact that he gave up 5 goals (which is why he was pulled) might have.

Though people were talking even before the SCF that Giguere was probably gonna win the Conn Smythe no matter what. I’m pretty sure someone even said that on one of the broadcasts or NHL2nite or whatever.

Giguere got smoked in game 5 when he gave up 6 goals so that and game 6 should have been a wash. He didn't deserve the MVP then and he still doesn't now. f*** him.
