That would be so hilarious I may never recover from the schadenfreude laughing. But even the Flyers have been staying above water lately in a couple of home games I thought they could be vulnerable in and gotten seven of their last eight points.

Flyers gotta lose at least three of the next four or I don't see them getting back into our range since their last three are a trip to Brooklyn and home games against Carolina/Rangers who'll probably play Georgiev again (or Pavelec).

They already are in our range. 2 points back, and we will have a game in hand at the end of the day.

It would be *VERY* risky to rely on Kinkaid as the starter next year. This could very easily be a fluke. But if he keeps this up he can make quite a case for himself. He doesn't look like he's stopping. Personally I wouldn't risk it, but even if it's not here I think someone will take a chance on him as a tandem goalie this offseason.

As far as I'm concerned, Kinky has...at the VERY LEAST...earned another couple of more seasons here as a NJ Devils goaltender.

If he continues this torrid play, I would STRONGLY consider splitting up the starts(EVENLY) with Cory(provided he is playing the way he was playing prior to the injury) and Kinky next season.

Because we all know that Cory is still the de facto starter based on that contract....

Funny thing is that Panther and Flyer fans are also ringing the doom bell over that fact they get no out of town help.

So someone has to actually be wrong. All three teams can’t miss the playoffs despite what their fan base believes.
Right now, if everyone wins out, we miss. Highly unlikely, sure. But that is the situation right now. It also means 1 slip at a bad time and we are done. This is not the situation we should be in. This team is better than that.

This team is scoring like the 2012 team. The 2012 team finished 15th in the league in scoring and we are 15th in the league in scoring right now.

Fighting for dear life shouldn't be happening in my opinion.

A Kinkaid/Raanta duo would be solid.

I just don’t see us ditching Cory in any way that isn’t ugly.

IMO, All it would take...is one Devils win(2 points) and one Florida loss(in regulation). THAT'S IT.

If the team can’t close out the season strong with a bunch of games against non-playoff teams then they absolutely don’t deserve it.

You absolutely have to beat bad teams when it matters most. Especially when the team’s around you have already done that.

We'd talked about .500 as the goal for the stretch but going 4-2 seemed to be a necessity. Need to close out now, there's no excuse to lose to CAR, NYR, NYI, or MTL.

Losing to Carolina basically makes this win meaningless. You can’t have a big weekend like this and follow it up with a losing effort against a Canes team that is done.

Double so at home.

Regulation loses have to also not happen anymore. We haven’t had any kind of sizable point streak in months.

The problem is that "close out the season strong" may have to have the Devils run the table and I don't see that happening as I think there might be a slip-up somewhere.

WE NEED ONE F'N TEAM.....JUST ONE....TO TRIP UP FLORIDA IN REGULATION WHILE WIN OUR GAME. :banghead:

Then we'd be up 5 points with some room to maneuver the rest of the way.

No next year!!!! The only thing that matters is the next 8 games. There is a whole summer to think about next year.

We can not miss the playoffs. I honestly believe missing the playoffs would be a death blow to this organization that might take years to recover from. I would elaborate but this would need a whole thread ..

This can't happen. We are too invested in this now. We are at a precipice of moving forward or needing an entire nother year to get to the point we are now. That would be devastating for so many reasons.

4 games against 4 non-playoff teams. 4 wins get us to 94 points.

Win one more out of the three playoff games and you got 96, which should absolutely certainly be enough.

There is absolutely no reason the team can’t go 5–2 with this stretch of games. Zero reason. They beat Pitt three times already. Toronto and Washington will have nothing to play for. The other 4 teams aren’t very good. We play almost all of these games at home.

This is a favorable stretch. We have to take advantage.

Prior to the year it wouldn't have mattered but holy shit you can't go from being top of the division to missing the playoffs. There'd be a lot of blame to go around if that were to happen but it's simply ridiculous we've put ourselves in this position. Playing meaningful games only goes so far when you collapse.

This is exactly the right way to look at it. If we get to 96 points and the Flyers, Panthers, Jackets, and Penguins all somehow play well enough to keep us out, I really can't fault the team for that. At the same time, if we lose to these teams, missing the playoffs won't have anything to do with the above 4 teams.

They are going to lose. It isn’t even a question. It also means nothing if we blow games against the likes of Carolina and Montreal.

im somewhat worried about Carolina. I just have a weird feeling that it will be a tougher game than it should be

im confident that @M.C.G. 31 's boys will put us over though. Montreal is basically enhancement talent this year :sarcasm:

Exactly. I am of the opinion that the out of town board will sort itself out one way or another as long as we hold up our end.

If we trip up in the final stretch and only get to 92, then I am not sure we really earned it.

A strong road trip means nothing if you can’t follow that up with a very good home stand against bad teams.
