Seemed like a confidence issue. He was a new man in the playoffs. But he could do nothing right toward the end of the regular season. Passing off A grade chances, probably because he had no faith in his shot.
He's traveling with the team on the road and is skating with the taxi squad players which are both good signs he's making progress, but even if he comes back, I'm not sure there's a spot for him atm. Ross Colton has taken hold of the 4th line center position which was Stephens originally and then there's also Kucherov who will be back eventually/hopefully.
