I'd like to see us come out and play our game. It's not like Toronto is playing for so much more since the division is ours. Right? This cruise BS is just that...BS.

It is and it isn't. I want to see us play a good game because it's a good test but at the same time I couldn't care less about the two points. Staying healthy for the rest of the regular season is priority above all else.

Playing it safe is fine up to a point. I don't want them getting used to not striving for greatness, or we may be one and done in the playoffs. I say keep the foot on the gas and take it to every team we meet. Go bolts!

My problem is that last year we cruised and ran into a buzz saw. I don't want to look back and say we peaked too early.

Meh this isn't their first time. Last season everybody and their mom freaked out because they took the foot off the gas in the last third of the regular season while still making it to the playoffs effortlessly. Once the playoff started we saw a completely different team. Everybody was buzzing and we pushed the Devils to the wall and never left off. Avoiding games 6 and 7 of the Caps series is what we need to worry about, not whether they play a full 60 minutes in game 70 of the regular season.

I hate that I have to miss this one. I'll try to watch it tomorrow though if I just manage to get through the day without spoilers. I'd like to be shitposting here though.

Like I pointed out last season, there is no correlation how a team ends their regular season and how they perform in the playoffs.

So I decided to check the last five seasons, how the finalists performed in their last ten regular season games, also included our Cup win season.

16-17
Pens 4-4-2
Nahsville 5-4-1

15-16
Pens 8-2-0
Sharks 5-5-0

14-15
Tampa 6-3-1
Chicago 4-6-0

13-14
Kings 5-3-2
Rangers 6-2-2

12-13
Chicago 7-2-1
Boston 3-5-2

03-04
Tampa 5-4-1

Ten games is a small sample and that wasn't my point at all...sorry. Thanks though.

Goes both ways. The other side of that coin is what happened to us in 2014, where we went all out for home ice advantage, had nothing left, injured our starting goalie, and got destroyed.

The best teams aren't set to 100% all the time, or even 90%. They look more like robots. Kind of like what we're seeing now, really. We look like a mature team that understands what it takes to win. We probably shouldn't have won as many games as we have, which is also a good sign.

Again, there's no such thing as a favorite vs. the field. So the idea of "cup or bust" when we have a team whose oldest core player is 29 just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The team isn't designed to have cup or best years. At least not any time soon.

Toronto is trying to catch Boston for home ice. Thats worth playing for imo.

The Bolts are what I hope the Leafs turn into in a year or so. If the Leafs don't win the cup this year I hope the Bolts do. Good luck to you guys tonight.
