You are out to lunch. The aves roster gives MacK much more help than one player, McDavid, gives to Draisaitl. Its a team game after all. And even so Draisaitl is en route to significantly outproduce MacKinnon for the 3rd year in a row.

Yea that 0.05 PPG difference is really blowing him away. Just like that 5 point difference in '18-19

Lol, free loading... Free loaded his way to the Ross, Hart, and Lindsay last season and outplaying McDavid over the full season.
He ain’t got **** over Matthews. Nothing, take him away from McDavid and no one will even talk about him.

Lol. *Checks lineup and sees Drai has mostly centred his own line the last two years*. But ya, nobody talks about a reigning Hart Trophy winner.

Took him away from McDavid last year where his line ended up being the best on our team quite easily and was probably the best in the league. No one talked about him except the media and players who both agreed he was he best player last year. But go on...

1) McDavid
2) Kucherov; Scares me more than McDavid when his healthy and is on his game.
3) Draisaitl; logged more 5 vs 5 minutes this season with 3rd liners Kahun and Yamamoto than he does with McDavid yet his still putting up terrific numbers.
4) Matthews/MacK

i get Draisaitl centers his own 5v5 line, and while i'm not sure about his TOI with McDavid, he has scored 43/71 (60%) of his points with McDavid. a significant amount of production involves McDavid in some way so even with the separate lines it is worth looking into.

Quick check of the 5v5 numbers this year:

Draisaitl with McDavid:
TOI: 281:15
CF%: 56.39
xGF%: 58.07

McDavid without Draisaitl:
TOI: 553:40
CF%: 53.78
xGF%: 55.80

Draisaitl without McDavid:
TOI: 521:28
CF%: 46.60
xGF%: 45.97

This isn't as lopsided as it looks though as Draisatl plays far less ozone starts than McDavid when they are away from each other and goal differentials are actually better for Draisaitl as well.

Still though, if he's not even that close to 50% it pretty much illustrates what people say about him in regards to being helped tremendously by McDavid. He doesn't impact the game enough individually to be ranked the undisputed #2 in the world like some believe.

Those are pretty clearly the second and third imo.

Matthews/Hedman/Crosby in the next group and I’m tempted to include Kucherov but he’s missed an entire year.

Auston Matthews with Mitch Marner:
TOI: 691:31
CF% - 53.83
FF% - 54.86
SF% - 55.56
SCF% - 62.09
HDCF% - 66.79
GF% - 67.16
xGF% - 61.90

Auston Matthews without Mitch Marner:
TOI: 100:30
CF% - 52.63
FF% - 50.97
SF% - 49.49
SCF% - 51.40
HDCF% - 55.32
GF% - 40.00
xGF% - 49.06

Mitch Marner without Auston Matthews:
TOI: 130.37
CF% - 37.73
FF% - 36.36
SF% - 36.89
SCF% - 40.31
HDCF% - 27.45
GF% - 38.46
xGF% - 35.20

The Leafs duo also sees a similar drop when they're split it. I think it's just common sense that two elite players playing together will see a drop when separated and playing with lesser linemates.

...and much like Drai, they are being used in defensive situations away from each other (Matthews at 44% and Marner even dipping to 33% ozone starts away from Matthews) in a comparably very small sample size. I know they have both been used in different variations finishing games as well as Marner ticking away time on end of PK. It really is a hard comparison here as neither has been on a separate line though.

That mostly comes from the PP I believe, and I think its very unfair to put all the praise of their lethal PP on McDavid's feet. Drai has already proven that he can put up terrific 5 vs 5 numbers with scrubs that wouldn't even beat Kerfoot on the Leafs' depth chart, imagine if he actually had a legitimate 1st line threat like McDavid has with Nugent Hopkins (388 min with Mcdavid; 372 away, 2nd most common forward linemate after Pulj), its a good thing the Oilers only has 1 other legit top 6 forward to pair with these 2, then again I guess you can count Tyson Barrie as a forward these days.

20 are powerplay points, 23 are even strength points out of the 43 this year.

MacKinnon followed by Matthews for me... I may feel differently when Kuch is back and playing though

Exactly.

That's why these constant rankings are kinda dumb. It changes quickly. Even if some guy IS the "2nd best player" at some point, that could completely change within 2 months. We look at everything through magnifying glasses all the time. It's weird.

Everyone is an atheist until they clog the toilet at someone else's house.

Things can change on a dime,.

Or maybe no one is clearly the 2nd best player which is why it's subject to change so quickly.

Oh right, the argument that good players can't play with each other should only apply to one side of the argument.

Take Marner from Matthews and give him Kahun and Yamamoto. Id like to see how that would go over.

Your genius analysis and complete homerism always shines through in your posts :)
