You've gotta be amazingly arrogant or amazingly stupid to repeatedly do something over and over, have it blow up in your face over and over, and insist it is the best way to do the thing.

Now imagine how amazingly arrogant and stupid you would have to be to repeatedly defend that person and those decisions, or find ways to bury the lede with pointless horse ****. And make no mistake, there is every bit as much arrogance as there is stupidity in these disingenuous arguments.

They literally played more than half of the 3rd period a man short. Of course the opponent is going to dominate possession & shots — it would be the same for every team in the league.

Now, if you want to bash them for being overly passive on the 6-on-5s — absolutely. But for most of the period, you can thank Simmonds & Gost for terrible lack of discipline, & Laughton & Raffl for interference, for forcing the Flyers to have the ice tilted against them.
Hard to believe someone had to type this.

Then again, you predicted after the second penalty that people would mistake the penalty kills for a shell.

There's an enormous sample size besides this one where they went into a shell, so this isn't a convicting excuse. If this were game 20 under Hak I'd entertain it, but we're nearing game 300. And he complained that they didn't shell even harder.

Exactly.

Last season we dropped eight games where we had a two goal lead. That was three games more than any other team.

This season we've done it twice, and it's only December.

If you don't believe that coaching systems and player utilization decisions have something to do with this sorry record, I don't know what to say.

So I hear. Who's at the lowest elevation then? I know Pittsburgh seems like a city carved out of the side of a mountain by Morlocks and every road seems to be at an 80 degree angle but it could just be an illusion of being underground.

You're not wrong. This is the best intersection of all time:

It's a 4-way. 3 of the options are blind to at least one of the others and go uphill at a 20%+ grade. Pretty much just a fun yinzer guessing game.

My friend went to the Art Institute there for a year or two and we surprised him with a visit. Holy hell is the street planning nightmarish. I can only imagine it's like Car Plinko the second the roads get icy and everyone just slides to the bottom of the city in a heap of twisted metal.

My confidence in Fletcher has dropped like 20% and will continue to go down in fifth percentiles until Hak is gone. It is possible I have -% confidence in him starting next season

Not much they could really do streetswise, though. The Point (like where the 3 rivers meet) was an ideal spot for a fort in the 1700's, YOU COULD CONTROL THE OHIO RIVER! But a fort and a major city are different things. It's a triangle, for one, and for another, everything around it is a hill. As it kept growing they ran out of flat land pretty damn quickly.

The best is the buses going up those streets. I don't even know how that works. A number of the super steep streets-a majority of them, actually-are still cobblestone. It's insanity. I had an old Jetta when I lived there and that city f***ed up the suspension so badly it wouldn't pass inspection and was totaled. So then I just walked everywhere for the next year and it was a lot safer.

I think you need to watch the replay, because Konecny might be slightly out of the play, but he is not anywhere remotely close to "almost at the blue line". If anything, the problem is two flyers appear to be covering one flame.

People harping on this as the takeaway from the game are the same kind of people who would remove the lettuce from their big mac to save calories. Sure, you are correct, but there are bigger problems you should worry about.
Ah, the let's grab a screen to prove you wrong post.

At this point the puck is already in the net and TK is making his way back. He might not have been at the blue line, but he was well out of position. Everyone makes mistakes, his just happened to be one that ended the game. No biggie. On to another loss tomorrow

Gutless pieces of shit. The coach can go f*** himself too obviously but also f*** the players. There’s no fight in them. They fold like paper under any pressure.

Still not fired.

Anyone here got this kind of job security? I employ myself and would still fire myself sooner than Hak has gotten the boot

Where is Homer on this? I never miss watching games but this year I've watched maybe 1/2 of them and of that 1/2, I've maybe watched all three periods 1/2 of them. Point is - life long fans who look forward to a beer, some Flyers on the TV, etc are tuning out. We're STILL tuning out. The product is crap. Get rid of the coach so we can see what the team looks like with a real system. If some of those players are still crap, get rid of them too. Enough is enough.

It's this f***ing simple.

All of this should have happened after Hakstol was humiliated out of the playoffs again. And even that is a year overdue.

They only problem is the simmonds, ghost and laughton penalties were selfish/stupid penalties that didn't have anything to do with defending the play.

Hakstol decided that maintaining and driving possession wasn't so important. You take fewer penalties when you have the puck instead of the other team.

This is so true. I just find myself preferring to do other things than watch a full game every night they're on. It kills me but this is the first time in forever I just don't get excited during the day knowing there's a game on that night. It's a shame.
