Wasn’t able to watch live. Unintentionally caught the score when it was 2-1. Temp here dropped quick, freezing anything on the roads, and then wind kicked up with snow, made for a white knuckle ride home. Watched the game from 2-1 on. Good show, glad Ebs is off the slide!

Didn't get to see much of the game, but heard the Red Wings feed on XM LOL.. wow terrible announcers Beau was called Bovier... did Jackie Kennedy have anything to do with his birth.... Eberle was Eberlay.... turned #7 into a porn star.

From what I saw, the Wings are truly bad, Kings are not... they have Doughty,, Kopitar, Carter, Toffoli, Quick.... Red Wings have Larkin and a bunch of castoffs and a horrible coach. I never liked that coach from the time he called a time out when they were blowing out the Isles... his team does not listen to him at all.

But How Do They Feel About Taylor Hall To Your New York Islanders?
Definitely gotta go for an offensive upgrade rental at the deadline. Trotz's system is made for the playoffs so we are good there. I would feel better with a little more scoring punch although we know that Eberle will get even hotter in the playoffs.:naughty:

Just finished the game. Thought they did not play very well overall. Too much running around in their own end. But they were still able to get 2. Glad Eberle finally got the monkey off his back. On to Montreal tomorrow

it's like we're repeating the 1980's

the isles are one of the top teams
the red wings are back to being "the dead things"
we have a d-list celebrity as president
new and strange "novelty" technology has taken over.

It's strange seeing the red wings ice such a talent-poor roster; Stevie Y certainly has his work cut out for him.

Solid win, some coverage issues in the second, that's about it. That said, this team needed a commanding win; last week they shit the bed against a similar bottom feeder. That's what encourages me, the bounce back.

I'm glad Ebs had two goals (bc we need another threat), he went to the dirty areas. Hoping this gives him confidence, if not, we may not see another goal for 9 games. As Goring noted several times, he's streaky.

Leddy looks poised this year. Would be hard pressed to trade him. He's been active, fast, and not doing that lazy BS thing he often has.

Detroit had some chances, but most were low danger. That's Islander hockey IMHO; they can give up 35 shots, and most of them will be low threat.

I see no reason to insert Dobson into the lineup. But the kid shouldn't be suiting up twice a month, I'm starting to lean towards sending him down. He's had a taste, practices with a winning, professional team since Aug-Sept. How many bad habits can he pick up that will change his overall game that much in the next few months?

One of Varly's better games.

Varly was good, couldn't ask for any more really.
Good to see Eberle release the pressure and what a nice goal by Beau.
Leddy was dead stiff on that penalty! What hold???
Toews has been a bit off the boil recent games, but Pelech is playing great.

A few years ago 2 points on the road against Detroit would have been an amazing feat.

kinda sad to see DET being so bad.
Imagine how much worse they'd be if they didn't over-ripen their youth!

Actually When Detroit was good and we were a bottom feeder for whatever reason we always played the Wings tough.

Since the 2005 lockout. Even funnier is you look at the bulk of the Wing wins it happened in seasons we made the playoffs(2007, 2016, 2017 and 2019)

Koivula needs to start getting points.
that would be great, but for now, i'm happy that he's doing so well on the defensive side of the puck. let him learn that reeeeaaaaal good. probably send him down (mostly because he's waiver eligible) and go with vets, for the last half of the season. let him go down and rip it up, be a leader.

if we are going to make a serious run this year this year, and i see no reason not to, Eberle is a guy who NEEDS to get going. we all see the need for some more shooting, and if Ebs can get it going, AND Barzal continues to improve his shot, we could go on a pretty good run...

i have to admit to not being a real Eberle fan, up until now. i always saw him as kinda lazy, soft. kinda like how Bones sees Bailey.

but hearing Trotz say that it's about confidence with Eberle, has somewhat softened me. and, i hear his teammates saying that he's a good guy. if that's the case, then i can be a LOT more understanding.

lack of confidence can destroy performance, without a doubt...

Sloppy game, but NYI had the lion's share of the really good opportunities. I worry about them playing this sort of game against teams like the Blues, Capitals, and Golden Knights who have players who can absolutely whip the puck past any goalie on a cycle play. But it works against Detroit, that's for sure.

Still, every game like this would be *far* less nerve-wracking if NYI can cover that gaping hole at center that affects the whole lineup. It's a problem. I felt we were better off when Cole Bardreau was playing that role. Koivula isn't ready.
