Being a guy like Ruhwedel must suck. He probably wants to play and would prefer to be in the AHL to get to play. But then if he's in the AHL he makes less money so that sucks too. I guess in the end making NHL money to do nothing isn't going to garner much sympathy.

This is the type of thing that drives me nuts as it pertains to Sullivan. He's obviously a good coach. But he plays favorites that apparently have little to do with the on ice play of certain players. And if we're aware of such things so to are the players. Ruhwedel is a fairly reliable bottom pair defender. And while Trotman may have better upside he also has bigger gaffes in his game. Go with the safer bet particularly if you're partnered with JJ. They actually had a nice showing friday. Why mess that up?

Jarry has earned the start, but I wouldn't be surprised if the only start he gets this week is Saturday against the Blues. Why would Sully want to put any pressure on MM. Just because it is painfully obvious that MM plays better when he has competition, why would Sully want to have his goalie competing. Just because we have been told for a couple years that Jarry plays better when he gets more starts, and that is why he can't be an NHL backup. Why would the coach want to give him more starts? Just because Jarry has some of the best goal-tending stats in the league, why would the team want to go with the hot hand?

Honestly, Sully needs to get Jarry in way more games, but I would be shocked if it happens any time soon. We should all know that MM is Sully's boy and that's not about to change anytime soon. I'm sure people recall MAF having a bad game (I think he let in 6) in the playoffs, so Sully went to MM. When MM had just as bad of a game (again I think 6 goals), Sully didn't even consider going back to MAF. Sure it all worked out in the end, but it might not have. I am not saying that MM shouldn't be the Pens starter, but he needs to be pushed/challenged. Jarry needs more than the 2nd game of B2B and MM needs to know that his spot isn't guaranteed. If this were to happen, I am confident that MM's numbers would get better.
