Does someone wanna tell me why Slovakia has a perfect record 5-0-0 and Czechs are like 2-3-0 and whoever wins the next game gets to go on to the final match? As far as any committee or person should be concerned Slovakia is more than qualified to go right to the final game. They should eliminate right now the 2 teams with the lower standing and get on with it.

If Slovakia loses and gets kicked out as a 5-1-0 v.s. the Czechs with 3-3-0 that would be insanely awkward and wrong

It's no different in the NHL, isn't it ?

Say the 1st seeded team has 55 wins and the 8th seeded team has 40 wins in the regular season. But the 8th seeded wins the first playoff-round 4-3, then Team A has 58 wins and Team B 44 wins. Though Team A is eliminated.

It depends which system you prefer. In Europe we do not have playoffs in many different kinds of sports. Champion is that team, that has the most points at the end of the regular season. Period.
You can find arguments for both.

Finland lost only 1 period in Lillehammer Olympics, and were 3rd in the final standings.

You know...winning the right games is important.

Reading.
Kinda sucks when you have the best record in the tourney to come up against the Czechs though. At the start of the group games, all the teams in group B must have thought if they come top, they will face either the Swiss or the Germans.

The Czechs are fourth in their pool for a reason. Injuries, shaken team confidence, goaltending issues... they may be the defending World Championship team and the '98 Olympic champion, but this team is a long way from those squads. If the Slovaks struggle, it may be more mental block than an accurate reflection of how these teams are playing right now.

All things being equal, the Slovak team should be much better than that of the Czech Republic at present, based on preliminary round play.

If it was up to me I'd change the tournament into this :

One 8-team group.
1 game against each team.

At the end of the round robin :

no. 1 team advances to final
1 semifinal between no. 2 and no. 3

Final : winner of 2 vs. 3 against no. 1

Finland has the best record of the tournament, not Slovakia.

Yes, it is a bit unfair that 3rd seeded sweden gets to play Switzerland and Finland has to face USA and Slovakia vs. Czechs, but thats how it goes.

Slovakia can just win and it won't be wrong.

This is how the Olympics goes. You say they should elimate 2 teams right now, well they just eliminated 4 of them

Oh please....you have to WIN games against tough opponents. It's just like any other sport. When you get to the playoffs, its crunch time. You put the regular season behind you and go all out to win. There's no free passes because you did well early on. Everyone knows this is the format going in.

Best record. Both have 5 wins, finland has better goal difference. The guy said "slovakia has the best record" so I just wanted to point out he was wrong. Slovakia has the second best record.

And if you want to compare the "big 7 wins", Sweden did not play even close to "big 7" hockey last night, they gave the win to slovakia.
