Voracek led the forwards in xGF% and on-ice chances. The Raffl line with him and the Couturier line with him were the only two lines to not get caved. Some people see what they want to see. :dunno:

I thought he looked good in the 1st half of the game but his energy level dropped off tremendously in the 2nd half. Possibly a result of being double-shifted. Coots and Oskar did the heavy lifting and Raffl / Pitlick werent slouches either.

Some thoughts:

The G - Frost - TK line got dominated a lot, they're a quick strike trio, but like Farabee, Frost is a couple years from being ready to carry a line, not a knock, just that it's hard to match up when you're 180 lbs of adolescent wimp. The last game AV was trying to protect him from Barkov.

That being said, Frost has the "magic hands," he's going to score a lot of goals when he grows up. And TK has become a complete player, 360 turnabout from the sloppy player he was under Gordon, now he consistently back checks. G is so much better at LW than center. But you have to protect these guys from fast, physical forecheckers.

Voracek tried really hard, but he ain't the player he used to be, seems to be a half a tick behind the action.
When you watch Frost, you realize how bad Voracek's hands are, he might be better suited as a mobile defenseman.

JVR is f---g snakebit, could have easily had two goals.

Provorov is roboD-man once again, best player on the ice when Carolina has a top foursome on defense.
Niskanen is veteran cool personified, the play where he cleared the puck from behind Elliott, no panic, just gets the puck then out of the zone.
However, Sanheim and Myers were shaky, Myers was to blame on the third goal by leaving early and Hagg had no chance against a 3 on 1.

There's a reason Ghost doesn't play 5x5 a lot under AV, once past the red line he's fine, but he got b-slapped in his D-zone once again, get a man on him and it's instant turnover. Just lacks the size and the great wheels to handle an aggressive forecheck. Anyone who thinks he played better than Braun is blind.

Elliott was his best self, not elite, but other than the PP goal he probably should have stopped, he made the plays he should make, though a few shaky rebounds.

You are aware shots don’t equal chances right? A post doesn’t count. An empty net shanked wide doesn’t count.

We got caved tonight 5v5 except for those players. They didn’t score. But they had possession and chances most of the game, and kept Carolina out of their zone and off the board. This is a perfect example of the limits of the eye test and cherry picking 1 or 2 plays versus an entire game of shifts.

Jake probably did the least amount of heavy lifting on that line though. Still hope he sticks there for now.

Good win.

Frost is flawed as a young center in the NHL away from the puck, but he ain’t going back to the AHL. This team needs his skill. His hands and offensive processing are sick. He’s also vastly improved from preseason. He’s mostly making smart reads. IMO his brief AHL time was useful. Well done, kid. Keep up the spark.

Provorov is looking great.

Niskanen is a godsend.

Ghost, well, I won’t beat a dead Hayes.

Pitlick is playing well now.

Farabee is not playing well.

1) The look on G's face after the sauce says it all
2) Why was Hogg trying to block the shot on the 3rd goal?
