Isaac Howard made a great pass in Team USA's pre-tournament win over Sweden. His sweet cross-ice saucer pass to Ty Gallagher's goal. He spotted Gallagher flying down his off wing but the impressive thing about Howard's pass -- other than the vision to see Gallagher breaking into open ice -- was how he passed the puck across his body on his off wing. Still, he delivered an accurate saucer pass the full width of ice from his blueline to opposing blueline. For a guy noted for his goal-scoring after the youth Olympic games, it was nice to see him flash this skill against a top international competition.

Conor Geekie has to be moving up the rankings not to many guys with his size and skill in one package
Connor Lisowsky and Matthew Ward both similar players but small in size. If they grow this year I can see them in the top 40
Nate Danielson has really looked good as well a natural center with a lot of hockey IQ and a leader on the ice

There's a serious lack of OHL players on many peoples lists . It makes sense since not many played this season after the 2020 OHL Bantam draft but you will see players like Bryce McConnell-Parker and Paul Ludwinski etc rise rapidly.

Hello!
I was waiting until WJC-18 are over and now I´m finally confident to release my current ranking of 2022 NHL draft.

Most of these players I watched to play several times(3-7 games plus some youtube, stats...) and surely I have 2022 players scouted better than 2021...
In fact, this was many many hours of watching these kids past several couple of months cause I love hockey and also a covid quarantine of mine was helpful :)

1. Wright Shane
2. Lambert Brad
3. Slafkovsky Juraj
4. Yurov Danila
5. Jiricek David
6. Savoie Matt
7. Bichsel Lian
8. Chesley Ryan
9. Nemec Simon
10. Geekie Conor
11. Miroshnichenko Ivan
12. Howard Isaac
13. Luneau Tristan
14. Salomonsson Elias
15. Gaucher Nathan
16. Koromyslov Arseni
17. Kemell Joakim
18. Cooley Logan
19. Matthiasson Leon
20. Trikozov Gleb
21. Nazar Frank
22. Casey Seamus
23. Ostlund Noah
24. Hughes Jack
25. Mateychuk Denton
26. Mesar Filip
27. McGroarty Rutger
28. Hutson Lane
29. Persson Ludwig
30. Jansson Ludvig
31. Lucius Cruz
32. Kaplan Devin

Honourable mentions : Warren Noah, Oliver Sam, Greene Ryan, Gauthier Cutter, Fleming Maddox, Laakso Elmeri, Hamara Tomas, Lutz Julian.

I tried to be as precise as I could be. Of course there will some new players who were out of radar in this pandemic season but next year they will exactly step up :)

Sorry for Rutger McGroarty ranking but I can´t see him higher. 2023 draftee Charlie Stramel is already a better player. I like him and if he was eligible for 2022 he would be the best ranked American.

Enjoy :)

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. There are a couple names on there that make me want to do some more research.

One guy who is absent from your list, but could work his way on next year is Pano Fimis. No. 2 pick in OHL draft in 2020 but didn't play this year. I can't argue he should be ranked as a first rounder now, but keep an eye on him next year.

I have to admit it seems you´re right with Pano Fimis. Honestly, I knew about this player and thought about him at the end of the 1st round but I didn´t know much about him, how good he could be. And also I didn´t know he was no.2 pick in past OHL draft, thanks for the info he definitely seems interesting!

He is a two-way, right-shot centre with high IQ. His skating is excellent now, and will only get better as he gets bigger and adds leg strength. Some of the Americans on your list were ranked ahead of him for the OHL draft, but because they had NTDP committments, Fimis rose in the draft to No. 2 and was first forward taken.

What can you tell me about Leon Matthiasson ?

Honestly, he is one of few players from my list who I haven´t seen play personally. So I don´t know how to describe his playing style maybe somebody from Sweden will know better. But one thing interested me I saw his name in 2 scouting reports somewhere and since then I keep eye on him. They said he is a very good dman who could surprise and rise the ranking and be a very high pick in 2022.

He is one of the names you had that made me do some research. Smallish-RHD with good offensive numbers. I want to see him play before I make a comparison, but if I know how Swedish hockey develops defenceman (they do a great job, BTW) he'll be a Victor Soderstrom-Nils Lundqvist type.

The apple tree that produces Swedish defencemen is plentiful and often produces a good late-blooming crop.

Thanks for the infos about Matthiasson, im myself following the Sweden scene a lot and I did not know him. I will follow him now ! As for now, potential swedes 1st rounders are Elias Salomonsson, Noah Ostlund, Ludwig Persson, Mattias Havelid, Simon Forsmark, Gabriel Kangas, Filip Bystedt and Ludvig Jansson. Only Salomonsson and Ostlund are clear cuts for 1st rounders tho. I like Helmer Styf too.

Hopefully there's some imports allowed but heading into the year it's looking like a very wildcard year for the WHL. Talented dmen but need to show growth offensively then highly skilled but smallish forwards who hopefully grow over the summer. A year out looking like a decent class but as already said a lot of wildcards. Will likely be overshadowed all next year tbh by the insane looking 2023 class but here's my early top 20 pre imports:

1-Matthew Savoie, C Winnipeg Ice
2-Conor Geekie, C Winnipeg Ice
3-Denton Mateychuk, LHD Moose Jaw Warriors
4-Tyler Brennan, G Prince George Cougars
5-Mats Lindgren, LHD Kamloops Blazers
6-Keaton Dowhaniuk, LHD Prince George Cougars
7-Mathew Ward, C Swift Current Broncos
8-Brandon Lisowsky, W Saskatoon Blades
9-Jordan Gustafson, C Seattle Thunderbirds
10-Tyson Zimmer, RW Brandon Wheat Kings
11-Kyren Gronick, RW Prince George Cougars
12-Mason Beaupit, G Spokane Chiefs
13-Matthew Seminoff, RW Kamloops Blazers
14-Jagger Firkus, C Moose Jaw Warriors
15-Brayden Schuurman, C Victoria Royals
16-Jace Weir, RHD Red Deer Rebels
17-Fraser Minton, C Kamloops Blazers
18-Jake Sloan, C Tri-City Americans
19-Ryan McCleary, RHD Portland Winterhawks
20-Tristan Zandee, LW Calgary Hitmen

1-4 A grade, 5-9 B grade, 10-20 C grade

Has WHL released info about import draft order? Are they selecting first or is it the Q? Which teams need imports?
