Boring af roster, yeah, I'll skip this year. Shame Eklund is injured, would've been a ray of light. Also: Brännström not getting an invite is really bad from Garpen's side.

Why they didn't even invite so many NHL players? I understand they are mostly young and not very experienced players, but still. Looks like Garpenlöv trusts his European squad a lot. Maybe they could invite somebody from Calgary and Vancouver? 2-3 players? I don't know.

E.Lindholm, & Backlund are two we know have declined from Calgary.

That leaves Markström, R.Andersson, & Höglander who we don't know about.

As far as I understood the rule, you can have a max roster size of 25 skaters and 3 goalies. After the initial registration, only 6 players can be added, so registering less than 2 goalies and 20 skaters seems wasteful.

My guess for how we line-up for the first game

Viktor Fasth
Adam Reideborn

Klas Dahlbeck - Viktor Lööv
Lawrence Pilut - Jonathan Pudas
Nils Lundqvist - Henrik Tömmernes
Magnus Nygren

Victor Olofsson - Isac Lundström - Rickard Rakell
Adrian Kempe - Dennis Rasmussen - Mario Kempe
Marcus Sörensen - Pontus Holmberg - Carl Klingberg
Oscar Lindberg - Pär Linholm - Max Friberg
Jesper Frödén

I think the defence looks really weak, wouldn't have minded if they had invited some of the younger NHL defensemen we have, like Björnfot or Brännström.

Was not particularly impressed by Redeiborn, so lets hope Fasth is ready to go.

The forwards looks ok given the circumstances. Kempe, Rakell and Olofsson are all candidates for our best-on-best team (even though none of them would be locks) and there is some exciting youth like Holmberg and Hållander.

We have 17 Defensemen not counting injured ones on teams that didn't make the playoffs and not a single is on the team. Impressive

I still don’t get how Garpen got the job. I mean, of course the job isn’t that sought after for Swedish coaches that already have 3 times the pay in an SHL-team, so maybe they didn’t have that many options, but he’s isn’t good at all. Still remember when Sweden had like 1 goal on 18 power plays in the 2018 olympics - guess who handled the PP?

I do get they wanted to go for someone that could help getting NHL players to represent the national team, but when they’ve only asked around 15 players and left out so many others, one wonders if he even knows how plays in the NHL and not

I mean, are you really unsure how he got the job? Heck, Montén is an assistant.

That second pairing is too weak in their own zone. Pudas is just horrible.

I think Olofsson could be good fit with Wingerli and Fröden. Olofsson is very similar to Berggren but better (right now).

Reideborn
Fasth

Dahlbeck - Tömmernäs
Pilut - Lööv
Sellgren - Lundkvist
Nygren

A.Kempe - Lundström - Rakell
Olofsson - Wingerli - Fröden
Sörensen - Holmberg - Rasmussen
Lindberg - P.Lindholm - Friberg
Klingberg

Hopfully R.Andersson, Markström and Höglander added.

Hard to make anything work with this group, Pudas and Pilut played together against the Czechs, so I'm thinking Garpenlöv will keep them together. It's really only Lundqvist and Dahlbeck that I feel are on "WC-level"

I think I would put the D pairings something like this:

Dahlbeck - Lundqvist
Tömmernes - Lööv
Pilut - Nygren

Oh god I hope that Rasmus Andersson comes, at this point I would welcome Alex Edler with open arms (but he is a pending UFA, so no chance I guess). But this would feel much better:

Andersson - Edler
Dahlbeck - Lundqvist
Tömmernes - Lööv
Pilut

Yeah, Swedish coaching i such an old boys club. I would put good money on that either Ragnarsson or Montén replaces Garpenlöv when he leaves. Tre Kronor coaching is always weak, when was the last time Team Sweden outcoached another top nation? When we win, we do it because we get the best roster. We don't see Sweden doing what Finland did last WC.

At least Grönborg went all-in on inviting NHL players and didn't keep any Euro bums out of loyalty. We haven't seen what Garpenlöv will do in a normal years, but considering how many NHLers he didn't even invite, perhaps we will go back to BÅG och Mårts philosophy of always inviting the likes of Weinhandl and Magnus Johansson

We know why he got the job, the same way they always recruit. When was the last time Tre Kronor actually had a good coach. I can't think of one.

The roster is boring as hell, I feel sorry for SVT. They finally got WC back and Sweden sends this team.

Not liking the goalies, I would have gone with Lars Johansson. Can't see why Max Friberg got picked for example. D looks weak and bottom six is meh.

Lasse Johansson declined, I think Reideborn is decent though, and Fasth+Ersson did great in the SHL this season, especially Fasth.

As for the D, the fact they didn't invite Brännström is laughable. Having Lööv in the top 4 is rough.

Coaches are the biggest issuse for sure. Last time we won and coach did a decent job I think was in 2006 with BAG at Worlds(in Riga btw).

I know why, it was mostly an “I can’t fathom how they would....”

Also, bummed to see that Bratt declined. Medical reasons?

Of the two Jespers that played for NJ this year, I'm far more excited about Boqvist than Bratt going forward. Would have liked to see Boqvist in the WC but it appears his contract status may have discouraged him from playing.
