The lady ran out to market basket to pick up some things for this weekend. On the way out she joked about coming home to dinner and candles on the table

so i threw on some slacks, lit a candle, flipped on classical radio on my phone, took some wine out and whipped this up

She smiled huge when she walked in. I’ll take it!

Saw this young kid with a sign. Wasnt even near anyone he was just sitting by the trash area of this place so I got him a burger some fries and a water. He was very thankful but hurt my heart to see someone between 15-19 out on the street. Whenever I can get someone food I do.

Typical of this inpatient generation that's for sure. Like it's one of the greatest things you can every go through....nine months of wondering and waiting and dreaming....one of life's truly great gifts to us, and people can't wait cuz they need to chose baby blue or baby pink paint to get the room done five months before.

It's going to be interesting to see if the rise of the concept of gender fluidity and the belief that parents shouldn't gender stereotype their childern with choice of colors, clothing etc. will impact the numbers of parents electing to find out the sex of their kids before they're born. Have to think at the very least it will reduce the popularity of gender reveal parties, but whether that extends to the actual process of finding out I'm not sure. The fluidity concept is popular in academic and certain social circles but I don't think it's gained widespread community acceptance yet.

BTW this isn't an attempt to start a debate on a controversial and politicized topic - just making an observation.

Everyone is fine.

Just picked the kids up from school. On the way back we hit a red light, and it's in a school zone so I'm already crawling. I coasted to a stop gently. Guy behind me gets roughly 3mm from my ass, so I gently pull forward a tick, and he follows suit. I make a mental note but do nothing. The light goes green and it immediately splits into 2 lanes until another red light a quarter mile up. Knowing of the approaching light, I make no rush to get there and casually roll up to the next light. Angry guy stays inches from my bumper the whole 1/4 mile and once again gets right up on me, and I still have no idea why. He probably could've just switched lanes but I digress.

I tell the kids that the guy behind us is really angry and in a big hurry, maybe he has to go to the bathroom. Light goes green and I scoot along because there's another split ahead and I need this lane. Finally this dude switches over to the right lane. He flies up beside us and swerves aggressively toward me to get my attention. I look over and he is absolutely losing it. Just screaming into the void with the angriest but most pathetic look I've ever seen on a grown ass man. Then he veers off to the right down another route, meaning he probably should have just been on that lane all along.

As he's screaming though, I made a calm down motion with my hands and laughed it off. Luckily the kids thought it was hilarious as well. I like to think that my warning and my reaction helped things along, and afterward it provided a nice teaching moment about driving and dealing with some people and their unnecessary aggression. Internally though, a wee bit unnerving.

Glad everything worked out for you.

I think the most aggressive thing I've done at least lately is give a woman the finger as I passed her to take a right turn. She was driving erratically and well below the speed limit and almost ran me off the road. I should mention this was at 8am during a weekday. She was not amused but the other cars around her were.

I don't know what your problem is man, I was just trying to say hello....

Scary shit when your children are with you and a clown like that is having a meltdown because he's stupid. Glad it didn't escalate and happy it all worked out.

I used to be an angry driver... Nothing crazy but I would lose my temper.

I'm not perfect now, but I'm much better than before. I don't know the "bad" driver's story... What they're going through, etc.

My mother still has PTSD from a bad accident 4 or 5 years ago. She's a very nervous driver... For all I know the person in the car ahead of me driving slow went though the same thing.

My wife will start driving soon enough, and she won't be perfect at it straight away... I'm sure there are many new drivers out there too.

Just need to take a deep breath, turn up the podcast, and remember that I'll still get where I'm going just fine.

For anyone who enjoys gymnastics, the US Classic is on at 7pm on NBCSN.

The Classic is the first of 2 competitions before the Olympic trials late next month.

Rumor is that Simone Biles is going to debut a vault that has never been done before

Let me assure you, finding out the sex in advance in no way negates the 9 months of "wondering, waiting" or indeed "dreaming". We found out with number 1 and will be finding out for number 2 in a couple of weeks, not for any sort of gender reveal as that is not our thing but simply because we are practical people and knowing in advance is important for us. Nothing at all to do with impatience either.

There was a huge ransomware attack of our public health services IT system here last week. It is believed to have been done by a Russian hacking group. Most of the systems are still down and it is affecting people getting treatment and procedures etc.. Our government confirmed they had received a ransom and while they didn't reveal the figure it is believed to be in the region of 20 million euro. Some patients personal data has already started to appear on the dark web as the hackers are no doubt drip leaking some of it to show they mean business. Just a nasty situation all round.

Whatever about hacking big businesses, hacking a health system and stealing very sensitive data of people with very serious health conditions is just the lowest of the low.

I think views on either side of this topic are very passionate about their stance. I think delving into it would be tricky a best, a flame fest at worst.

It's nuts, an utterly disgraceful form of criminality. The same group behind the attack on the Irish health services has also gone after numerous targets in the USA:

FBI: Conti ransomware attacked 16 US healthcare, first responder orgs

Australian entities are also a frequent target for ransomware and similar attacks, although a lot of ours originate from China.

If it makes you feel any better the DarkSide group that had the ransomware on the US east coast Pipeline was paid the ransom. Then they were swiftly raided and lost all their servers and their finances were frozen. On one hand a lot of infrastructure in 1st world nations is 30-50 years behind on IT because no one wants to foot the bill to update it. These attacks will force that which is a good thing in the long run. In the short run these small business hackers are starting to hit targets too large that get them too much limelight which puts them in the cross hairs of not only Interpol but government militaries.

Who else is experiencing the cicada invasion? Wondering how widespread this phenomenon is.

had to sweep off the porch before I could enjoy my morning Bru. Now I’m listening to their creepy chirping.

The chorus has been non-stop here. Have to be careful of any undergrowth for all the snakes out to feast also.

My son came home from the UK yesterday after a four month course. He is now in the basement suite for two weeks. At least we can get together in the backyard to talk keeping a sensible distance this time of year. He will finally be going on a ship in October to progress more training. The training will be practically non stop for a few more years.

So an update, the Irish government has refused to pay the ransom (which I think is the right call). The hackers gave up a decryption key last week so our health system is going to be able to retrieve all the data but the hackers have a copy of everything. They gave a deadline of last night (Sunday) to be paid or they were going to dump/sell all the data on the dark web come Monday. The deadline has come and gone so everyone is just waiting now to see what appears.

All Irish citizens have been warned about possible scams and/or blackmailing over the coming months and years as our data will most likely get sold and passed between different criminal groups. Main worries regarding blackmailing are for people who have phycological diagnosis or things like STI's etc... things that maybe they don't want other people in their lives to know about.

Supposedly the whole thing started when some poor innocent nurses computer started "acting funny" and when a help window suddenly appeared she clinked on the link giving them remote access to the system.
