Man i was just browsing some teams cap space and what not.

And holy hell
RJ + Duechene have a combined cap hit of 16 million for the next 4 seasons.

They had combined 35 points, which is 2 more points than comtois had by himself.

Seabrook has negative value, Johnson has negative value.

Kesler has negative value. So if Anaheim did want to swap him the question would be which negative asset would they like in return?

Ranking from most negative to least:
1. Johnson
.
2. Seabrook
.
.
.
3. Kesler

Wait... what? Seabrook and Kelser possess instantaneous huge cap relief. What are you talking about?! That's why Tampa made the trade for Seabrook so that they can keep their better players to keep the Stanley Cup run alive for a third consecutive run or longer b/c Seabrook has $6.875 mil per season for the next three seasons. The 'Hawks get a 3C that helps them now and a 2023 second round pick in the process.

Anaheim would like to get a draft pick out of a player who cannot play in Kelser and a player of talent, which the Ducks are sorely missing.

No it doesn't, the key to that trade was Tampa shedding Johnson, and taking Seabrook back was part of the price. Which is fine for them because it's better for their cap because it means Johnson is gone, but it isn't as good as if Johnson was just gone for nothing.

Seabrook's contract was definitely a negative, with Kesler there's maybe a scenario or two where it's seen as neutral but it's definitely not positive. There's no real reason for the Ducks to make a move like the Seabrook one, they could just take that player back and would be better off asset-wise to do so.

Nah. Tampa lost cap space by trading for Seabrook. Seabrook has about two 2nd round picks worth of negative value. Tampa included a 2nd with Johnson, which would suggest Johnson has about three 2nd round picks worth of negative value.

Yes, Tampa can now spend up to $6.875m over the cap with a Seabrook LTIR. But they also added Seabrook's $6.875m cap to their payroll. Net free cap space gained is $6.875m - $6.875m = $0.

And it's actually less then $0 as acquiring Seabrook forces Tampa to use LTIR, whereas before they could have stayed under the cap at least part of the season and thus banked up pro-rated cap space. You can't do that with LTIR.

The only Caveat is that after the season starts they can sign of recall any number of players equal to that cap space as they know Seabrook will be out all year. It isn't free cap space and the ability to bank cap being lost is not insignificant.

We are at 40 contracts with five RFAs still to sign and probably a couple of our draft picks (McTavish, Lopito, maybe someone from 2020) coming, so I can kind of see why he didn't get an ELC just yet.

It's complicated. Tampa is going to use a training camp LTIR on Seabrook, which means on day 1 of the season they'll have $0 free cap space. If they wanted to recall a player on day 1+ they'd have to send another player down or have someone else go on LTIR to make space.

Or at least that's how it would normally work. However with Hedman going to LTIR to start the season Tampa should have free cap space on day 1 to make any recalls they want. Once Hedman comes off LTIR then they'll revert back to the scenario I described above.

The LTIR section of the CBA needs to be shot into the sun.

I too agree next title should be along the lines of “Murray sits back” or “Murray kicks back”

Episode V: Bobs Hangover:

Murray, Carlyle, Bryzgalov and Boudreau wake up hungover in a alley in Newfoundland and unaware how they got there and a pile of broken barstools are next to them.

Murray looks at his phone and sees that he signed Brogan Rafferty but doesn't remember signing him.
Bryzgalov mentions that the bartender was named Brogan and he threw them out of the pub after Murray starting throwing Barstools.

Well that would explain the lack of signing anything for the NHL team.

Holy shit, how did I just now learn about the origin of the nickname barstool Bob, I guess I was nine or something when it happened but still, that’s hilarious
