While Carolina lacks star power, the balance on this team is excellent.
STRENGTHS
2nd line: players tied for 15th and 24th in goals paired with a young winger hitting his stride (13 points in 12 March games);
defense: Doughty has regained his form and is playing his best hockey in 4 years, the two young LDs are getting better almost every game and love to hit, Subban is a strong 2nd pairing/2nd PP option, the 3rd pair both average more than 18 1/2 minutes;
PK: Cirelli, Teravainen, Farabee, Gourde, Necas, Moore, and Luostarinen all are above average PKing forwards. Doughty and Ferraro are stalwarts on their respective PK units, each of the other 4 D-men are strong options short-handed.
Goalie: Ullmark has a winning record the past two seasons in front of the Sabres (let that sink in). While his GAA and sv% are good, the truth is that the sv% has been more than .020 better than his backups both seasons, that is amongst the best in the league. Wedgewood has also performed well in front of a team that is struggling. In front of this defense, both should be stellar.
