2021 NHL Fantasy Draft Discussion

Goal

• Build the best team possible for the 2020-2021 NHL season + playoffs

Draft Details

• 20 round snake draft
• 3rd round is reversed (31st OA drafts at the start of R2, 3, 5, 7 while 1st OA drafts at the start of R1, 4, 6 etc)
• 2 hour clock - 1 hour clock starting in the 10th round
• Clock runs from 9am to 12am EST every day
• Back to back picks still have 2 hours not 4
• @hockeynorth will co-run this draft.

Trades

• 3 trades per team maximum
• No 3 team trades
• Each player/pick may only be traded once
• Post in thread and tag myself, other GM must confirm

Salary Cap

• 60M to 75M

Eligible Players

• Players who have played at least one game in the 2020-21 regular season or playoffs.
• Players are assumed to be currently healthy (i.e. Kucherov), but those with career ending injuries are ineligible (i.e. Brent Seabrook)

Skipped Picks

• Your pick is skipped after the clock as are all future picks until you make it up, you will be auto'd after 2 rounds have elapsed
• 3 skips and your clock is reduced to 50%
• 6 skips is auto skip

Voting

• We will vote internally to rank teams based on division, top 4 in each division move on
• We will use 2020-2021 divisions and playoff format
• All voting for playoffs will also be internal

We actually started these off with an 83 million cap hit, and nobody came near it.

With the lack of dead cap (buyouts, retention, etc), and for the most part terrible contracts, the cap ceiling can be a lot lower. 75 seemed to be a sweet spot, teams had to be aware of salary at all times but it wasn't too challenging to stay under.
