Should take a goalie in round 3 or 4, Dostal is outstanding but we’re very thin after him. Not high on OEE, Durny, or Metcalf.

Goalie is the one position I never worry about with the Ducks. Somehow they seem to always have a pipeline of starting goalies for the past 20 years.

So if Hughes and Powers are the top 2 picks, who do we like at #3, #4, #5 ? as even if the Ducks finish with 3rd worst record they may be picking at #5.
I personally like Edvinsson at #3 and Clarke at #4 and at #5 a toss up between Beniers and Johnson. With Clarke you get another RHD.

Lindholm/Drysdale
Fowler/Clarke
Mahura/Hakanpaa

Lindholm/Drysdale
Edvinsson/Hakanpaa
Mahura/Thrun or LaCombe. Fowler traded for a Forward.

Look at big defensemen taken in the top 5. Not very many that I envy.
I took a look at Big Dmen picked in the top 5 since 2006.
Erik Johnson went #1 overall in 2006 and while a fine player, he only reached over 30 points in one season in his career. Not exactly #1 overall pick material.
2007: Karl Alzner 6'3 at #5 overall has never reached even 22 points in a season.
2008: Luke Schenn 6'2 and Zach Bogosian 6'3
2010: Gudbranson
2011: Adam Larsson at 6'3. 2012 Reinhart.
2016: Juolevi at 6'3.

Noticing the past 5 drafts teams are picking smaller Dmen sooner and its paying off.
2 of those big guys have played for the Ducks in their careers lol. Murray sure loves his big man Dmen.

Victor Hedman is the guy everyone points to as the success story but those guys you listed are the reason I would rather not take a chance on Power.

I'd take Hughes, Beniers, Power in that order. I am very high on Beniers though. Obviously subject to change it's very early.

Thats why i don't want the #1 pick this year, let someone else pick Austin Powers at #1 lol.
Also this would favor the Ducks getting better RNG in the 2022 lottery if they miss out on #1 in 2021.
Crossing fingers the Ducks get good RNG and move up to #1 in 2022

There are just as many that turned out very well though. Hedman, ekblad, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Hanifin, Dahlin. I'd even consider larsson a success considering he's still a top four dman almost 10 years after being drafted. That's a win for any draft pick.

Dmen aren't taken in the top 5 very often, either.

Doughty is only 6'1 so I wouldn't put him in here.
I'm actually surprised at some of those guys. I didn't know Ekblad was 6'4.

Ya I wouldn’t hesitate to take a defenseman because he’s too big. If he can skate then wouldn’t that be an asset?

I have heard multiple times that Power's skating is his strength but I'm pretty sure that is just comparing him to other big men. I don't see an amazing skater when I see him. Especially compared to other young top defensemen right now.

I want to like Berniers lol. His skating and stick handling are so impressive.
The first time I saw him play at the WJC I was all on board, but the more I watch him the more I see a guy with all the tools and no vision/finish.

Not even going to try to speculate on who we'll end up getting lol. Just confident our scouts will pick the right guy who ever it ends up being, and I can't wait to see who it is.

The point is the hit rate is about the same as any other top pick, forward or defenseman, no matter the height.
