I watched some Carson Lambos videos the other day and there were a few nice mutual set ups with McLennon in Winnipeg. He played two years with McLennon, so our western scouts have seen lots of him. Decent size, very good skating Dman with some speed and offensive chops. He's in the range in a few of the preview lists..

Of players who might be available at 13, Lambos is on my short list. Possibly at the top of that small list.

Fletch drafting another LHD with a top 15 pick seems unlikely but ya never know. Our scouts are unpredictable.

Trying to formulate a rough ranking tier, Lambos and L'Heureux are probably quite close to one another. I feel like each is a forward/defense version of the other. High floor, well-rounded, physically mature, upside a little questionable. Don't dislike the players; dislike the value. Still believe there are better players even trading down from 13.

Why take Lambos in the first when you can get this guy in the second?

Olen Zellweger. One of the youngest players in the draft who also plays the right side. The Girard comp is probably played out by now, but if there is one in this class it's him. He has excellent feet with a surprisingly long stride for a player of his height which allows him to cover a lot of ice. My buddy Scouch is always dogging his skating and I don't really see the critique. I think he was the only player to beat Lysell in a foot race at the u18s. Was on PP1 over Brandt Clarke by the end of the tournament also. With a clear drop-off after the top 4 defensemen, I'm not sure he's not #5. He'd probably be in the first round conversation with a full body of work.

I'll hate the Andrae pick even more if he somehow enters the thought process with this kid is on the board.

2021 NHL Entry Draft Mailbag - EP Rinkside
Who is the one player that may not be a high, or even mid, round guy but one that you’re angry to not see on more boards? A smaller-name kid you think deserves WAY more attention

This one is a layup for me. It's Simon Motew. The Kitchener Rangers defender is a player that very few public lists recognize as a top-100 type of pick. Hell, I'm not sure too many lists have even put eyes on him with much focus. NHL Central Scouting ranked him 129th for North American skaters which falls somewhere between sixth or seventh-round flier and the undrafted pile. But not this guy. This guy sees a highly mobile, creative, rush-jumping, right-side defender with good size. The kid has one of the best first touches in the draft. Motew was robbed of an OHL season like so many eastern players but instead went to Chicago of the USPHL Premier league where he absolutely destroyed the competition. His 16 goals and 45 points in 21 games represented a 2.14 points-per-game. That mark was tops among defenders (by a mile) and sat second in the league. He also tossed eight goals and 16 points in eight playoff games. Additionally, he was a part of the Erie Showcase and looked very strong there as well. This is the type of player that years later fans and analysts will heap praise on the organization that found a legitimate NHLer out of the late rounds.

@FLYguy3911 had a feeling you'd have this guy in the mock after reading this

Yeah. Maybe Cam saw my Mock Draft and raced him up his board. :sarcasm:

RHD with decent size, skating, and plus skill are pretty good bets. He was pretty good in the OHL last year too as an unheralded 16 year old prospect. He's one of the guys that in a normal year where he gets to play a full season in the OHL, may be on the 1st-2nd round bubble. He played in a shit league this year, but future NHL players make a mockery of leagues they are too good for.

Feels like he's being underrated overall though like Barzal in 2015 - though he had injuries his draft year.

I think Chuck is more likely to pick 5 times than 15.

Average # of picks in 11 drafts = 6.27

It’s odd because he reportedly values analytics. It’s the smarter play to accumulate picks/assets than do whatever Chuck’s done at the draft table in his tenure as an NHL GM.

Early returns on his 2020 Trade-Ups are good at least (Wisdom and Desnoyers). In 2019 he didn't trade up at all and only traded back to get York and Brink. I believe our only lost pick in 2019 was the 5th to get Jets for Hayes' rights. We will see how 2021 goes.

Didn't he trade back to take York and trade up to get Brink?
