Apparently the loser of the 7/8 game plays the winner of the 9/10 game for the 8th seed.

Yes, this way makes much more sense since they are just one off games. Winner of 7/8 is in and the loser has another chance. 9 and 10 cannot both advance which is obviously very possible if they did 7 v 10 and 8 v 9.
