I would love to see the Soo get it but I'd be shocked if they get it over Oshawa.
Me too especially when SSM hosted it in 1993 Oshawa last hosted the Memorial Cup in 1987, plus there wasn't and Eastern Division that hosted the Memorial Cup since Ottawa in 1999. Oshawa is due. Just saying:thumbu:

1987 - Oshawa
1990 - Hamilton
1993 - SSM
1996 - Peterborough
1999 - Ottawa
2002 - Guelph
2005 - London
2008 - Kitchener
2011 - St Mike’s
2014 - London
2017 - Windsor

Since Oshawa has hosted the Memorial Cup (lined up over night for tickets BTW), Peterborough, Ottawa, and Mississauga all hosted from the East. I guess you could also say Hamilton but they didn’t really host. So, three of eleven. I’d say it will be pretty tough to bypass the Generals this time around. Another bid would seriously need to be pretty stellar.

Disclaimer - not, in any form, trying to incite a riot.

No team or city is “due” for an opportunity to host.
If that is what the expectation is, then a massive breach of ethics would be involved in the OHL/CHL taking in the bid fee just to toss the tournament in the direction of the team that is “due”.
If London was bidding every year the OHL hosted, I would certainly expect them to have a front running shot - not because they are in the “league’s pocket” as many soap boxer’s claim, but rather they have the infrastructure/resources to put on an exceptional tournament. Based on this logic, this decision will be purely a business decision and will have zero to do with whatever team feels like they have the right to host. If Oshawa is awarded the tournament, it won’t be because they are due, it will be because the numbers from the Sault just couldn’t compete and if the Sault comes out on top, it isn’t because Oshawa has David Branch personally see to their snubbing but more so due to the new initiatives that the CHL is promoting in spreading the tournament around to smaller markets.
Based on articles and interviews, this may end up being the worst possible time frame for Oshawa to bid on this tournament. The OHL has had a run of larger market hosts and coinciding with the strategies/marketing push from the CHL, this may drastically alter the criteria in the boxes that the OHL is wanting the host city to check off.

Minimum of 1200 hotel rooms required to host. An area equal big enough to host the off ice activities. Windsor had 3 additional hockey pads for this plus the coliseum at the Casino for events. Event is much more now then just the hockey games.

I'm hoping the Soo wins this - can't wait to hear from a certain poster why it will be ok for the Soo to back door into the Memorial Cup.

I hear what your saying, and I know this has nothing to do in what your saying but Oshawa has bid to host the Memorial Cup two times each been denied to probably to a City that ticked off all the boxes, this time around Oshawa has ticked off the boxes, the arena has been upgraded (new Sound &light system, NHL glass new scoreboard) plus the City has 2 new Hotels in the downtown core plus loads of hotels in the Durham Region.
So in my eyes Oshawa has ticked the boxes. I would love it to be in Oshawa not just because we will have a competitive team,But I think the fans, Rocco Tullio and staff & the city of Oshawa deserve it. I'm sure Oshawa, S.S.M. plus will put there best presentation forward to the committee.

One would almost say the SSM fans deserve it more. ( Ok ...I'm the one ... I'm biased here...I want it .. hahaha )

And again noone is due or deserves it more than the other but what a pull for marketing for the OHL it would be if SSM got it, as it will be the Greyhounds 50th anniversary as a team.

Machine shop is now our big venue. Bushplane also. Both within a walking distance. Roberta Bondar is a big outdoor venue. We have everything that windor would have, and we have the areas. All the commodities are within 15 minute walk, and the far ones are a 15 minute drive maximum haha.

Would have been nice if the city would have started on twinning the McMeeken by now so we’d have a couple new pads in town. The hotels and lack of shopping in the downtown/mall core stinks by maybe someone will open something in the meantime? Couple new bars/restaurants would hurt either. As well as another nice downtown hotel! We can all wish! Lol

Lets not forget the outdoor plaza that is being developed in the Soo, withing walking distance of the GFL, which will include a large oudoor screen which would be perfect for the Memorial Cup and would be able to show the games for those who can't get tickets. I belive construction on this plaza is scheduled this year, I am sure if the Soo got the Cup, this would be given priority. Also, as another poster mentioned, the Machine Shop is large enough to host events and is also within walking distance of the Gardens. In short, the Soo has the infrastructure to host.

Never thought of Oshawa as "big market" but just checking wiki and it states that the city is "part of the Greater Toronto Area" but has their CMA. That being said which OHL cities are considered to be large market.

My List;
Ottawa
Mississauga
London
Kitchener/Guelph
Windsor
Oshawa
