Ok who DID’NT vote Holtz…There is always one or two of your guys who go against the grain for the sake of going against the grain lol . Even though Holtz has a “meh” season he still has tons more offensive skill than Foote ( who received the “highest” amount of non Holtz votes ) . I’m not sure if those two votes are because they are really high on Foote or really disappointed in Holtz but to each their own that’s the entire point of doing this . I love hearing what other Devil fans think

I like people going off the board, makes it interesting.

Guadana, perhaps not having not recovered over the disappointment of getting loosey goosey Luke over a steadier more defensive-minded dman has has fled to steady strong charms of Team Okhotiuk.

Jim makes a solid contrarian pick in Stillman.

Someone I assume is Czech voted for the Czech kid.

NJdevilfanJim is long time Foote-devotee and I guess the other guy is too (seems like a lurker, so I got nothing.)

You know what really hurts? Five years ago we were looking at this list, comparing it to the 2011 prospect list, and saying "look how far we've come in five years!"

For reasons I mentioned in the #2 thread, Holtz has to be #3 here.

But to the point, Holtz, poor season, but overall body of work gives him the edge over the rest of the group. Don't think it's crazy to go another direction here though.

I can't vote for Holtz at #2 from what I saw from the WJC and Binghamton....wasn't impressed. Maybe it was all circumstances due to the year...I wouldn't even argue that point but the actual play I saw was uninspiring.

I'll take a guy with a high compete level and solid skill over the draft position bias every single time.

And Stillman is a competitor.

I think I am going Stillman next as well. Getting the feeling folks are really underrating the kid

I was initially underwhelmed by the reach, but the more I watch/read about him the more I like him.

If the Devils had an early second round pick and took him then, everyone would be thinking we have a steal on our hands.

Ya, surprised by the reactions, there are some players on that list.
And Coleman was fresh out of college and had just signed his Entry Level deal when that list was made.

Him not being on that list is the epitome of the bias that happens with these things.

It should have been no surprise...Coleman was excelling. Fresh out of college with 20 goals and a point per game - There were only 14 players in the NCAA in 2015 with 20 or more goals and averaged a PPG or more. (Only 26 players in the entire NCAA Div 1 scored 20 or more goals)

And Some how an undrafted Nick freakin Lappin is 11 on that list - Blandisi at 6 is even more BS....This was when people wanted to believe what Shero touched was going to be automagically be better than the past.

I think draft position anti-bias is also a thing. Holtz had a poor +1 season, if we look at it through the lens of a top 10 pick.

Consider this, Stillman in his draft year put up 4 points in 7 games at the U-18.

Holtz in his draft year put up 5 points in 7 games at the U-20. In his predraft season he put up 7 points in 7 games at the U-18.

Yes Holtz had a unimpressive season this year, playing mostly professional hockey in the SHL and the AHL mind you, but Stillman was playing 8 whole game in the Denmark juniors. The difference in competition level is humungous.

At least Mercer was putting up big #'s in back to back years in a major Canadian junior league. That's why I was comfortable putting him above Holtz at #2. But Stillman just does not have the track record, this year or years prior, to jump Holtz imo, even off a bad season from Holtz.

I think I'll have Shak above Stillman for track record reasons as well.

Consider this... One was a bottom 6 player and the other was 1st liner and feature on the PP. I don't think point difference is that great considering.

Stillman scored as many goals as Holtz at the U18 from the bottom 6....Holtz is supposed to be a goal scoring specialist...Not buying it.

It's not bias at all, Coleman was 23 for nearly the entire season when he did that. His age cohort had been pros for several years at that point. If you look over that list of big scorers, almost none of them close to Coleman's age cohort are excelling in the NHL right now - you've got Zach Hyman and that is it, and even Hyman is 8 months younger. Almost everyone else on that list is at least a full year younger. Trevor Moore is 3 1/2 years younger. Jack Eichel is nearly 5 years younger.

Coleman should be on the list, to be clear, but he should be around 10th on that list. While there's a very strong chance he becomes a good pro, it's unlikely that he manages to become an NHLer.

But it wouldn't be a Jim post without something wrong - there were 18 players I counted wth 20 or more goals in D1 who averaged a PPG or more. In addition, Blandisi was signed by Lou in January of 2015, he was not something that 'Shero touched'.

Holtz was in his predraft season. In his draft season he was playing in the U-20's. As far as competition goes Holtz has always played at a higher level at similar times in their development.

No fault of his own, but Stillman barely even played this year, and half the games he did play were in the Denmark juniors. Holtz may have had a poor season, but Stillman barely had a season.
