I believe the Habs said they would only sign one of their expiring prospects to a contract, which would leave Allan McShane, Cole Fonstad and Samuel Houde to become Free Agents.

That was such a sexy draft for them; each of those guys was a great value pick. And even now, their production has been pretty solid. A little surprised Montreal is limiting their contracts. Wouldn't be surprised if they all at least get AHL contracts somewhere. Fonstad personally surprises me the most.

I'm glad he got signed, he is a smart hockey player..I watch him with Guelph Storm and thought he had a better season then Jason Dickinson.

Fonstad shies too much from physical contact to be effective at the NHL level. McShane skating has not really improved so he is doubtful to be an NHL player. Houde had a great spike in his 20 yo season, but does it really warrant a NHL contract?

I would not be surprised if we offer 1-3 of them get AHL contracts if they go undrafted this year, but with the shit ton of draft pick incoming, we will need to be selective with our NHL contracts.

If not retained by the Habs, Fonstad and Mcshane could get snatched by some other team, but I expected both Tyszka and Walford to find a home last year and they did not ( Tyzska went CIS and Walford went overage the WHL), so you never know. In any case, unless one of them goes into super mode, they won't be more than offence-focused bottom 6 NHL guys if they make it past ECHL/AHL.

I know almost nothing about USports and the level of play - and other than Mike Ridley and Randy Gregg in the 1990's I don't recall a lot of players making it to the NHL.

But was rummaging through past Lightning drafts and came across Cristiano DiGiacinto.

Realize 24-year-olds drafted in the sixth round are generally long forgotten six years later. But he had quite the season this past year for Acadia — scoring 20 goals in 37 regular season games and six more in seven playoff games.

Anything to this?

Limoges being named captain is a pretty good indicator that the #18 highest scoring undrafted NCAA Forward is returning for another season of NCAA hockey (Though, if I’m not mistaken, Logan O’Connor was named one of the captains of his NCAA team a few years ago then was coaxed into signing an NHL deal with Colorado before the season began).

Confirmation on McShane, Fonstad and Houde not getting contract offers. I'm a little surprised no one offered them a 7th for one of these guys, but then again Marc Bergevin has a pretty good record signing/not signing draft picks during his Habs tenure.

This list is solely with respect to players whose team rights will expire on June 1st, as that date is rapidly approaching.

In due time, there will be another list of college players such as Pavlychev whose signing rights expire in August. There are a handful.

That CapFriendly list is for June 1, yes, but we keep track of the August 15 as well.
In fact, @Booba is pretty much our in-house expert on the matter!

Ahhh, ok. I see, that was way back at the beginning of this thread.

Ok, didn't know why this one specific Penguins prospect would be mentioned as if he were left off of the list pertaining to June 1st deadline, but I guess that's in light of this thread on whole.
