The first tournament of the season is next week, so the contest will start up again immediately. Pretty much the same thing as last year. Read the rules, even if you think you know them. Any input on rule changes is welcome. Speak up if you have something to say. Anyone can participate, and you can start participating at any time, although those that participate the most weeks have an advantage in winning. The Rules will be posted in the second post of the thread.

Here are the rules. There are a number of them, just to make sure we have solutions for any problems that may come up. I suggest to read them. You obviously don't have to, but if you miss a rule, you could effect your own score.

1. Every week you make two picks to score points for you. In other words, pick golfers you think will place well in the tournament. That could be because they are very good, have a good history at a golf course, they are playing well in recent weeks, whatever reason you want to pick them. Post your picks in this thread. Make the picks clear. If both Molinari brothers are in the field, don't just write the last name. If two golfers named Smith are in the field, make clear which one you are picking. Nicknames are fine when making picks. DJ, ZJ, TW are all acceptable and known, some other nicknames are fine also, just don't make a pick using a nickname no one knows for an obscure golfer. The onus is on you to make sure your pick can be understood, and there aren't two people who it could've been with you claiming after the tournament ends that you meant the one who finished higher.

2. The regular season of picks will end after the last regular season event. After that, the top eight in the standings will compete in the playoffs with seeds, 1 plays 8, 2 plays 7, 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5. Top point earner in each match that week goes through. First tiebreaker in the playoff match is least # of picks missing the cut that week (for the final, it is over two weeks), second is average placement of your picks that week (for the final, it over two weeks), third is total # of regular season winners picked during the regular season. First tiebreaker for playoff seeding is # of regular seasons winners picked, second tiebreaker for playoff seeding is least # of picks missing the cut during the season. If we don't get 8 to participate, the first however many picks it applies to will have first round byes. No re-seeding after the first event. Second event we are down to four teams, same rules as the first playoff round, then we are down to two teams for the final two events with the same rules. The final will be contested over the final two events, instead of just one event, same rules apply, besides just the extra event its contested over.

3. You can only pick a golfer three times during the regular season, not counting majors. For the majors, there is no limit on who you can pick, the tiebreakers don't apply, the picks are slightly different and the points are also slightly different. Its the same as last season, unless we can agree on something better for the majors. That can be decided though before April. For the playoffs, a fourth time a golfer can be picked will be added on for all golfers. If you want, you can save your picks of certain golfers to the playoff events. You can pick whoever you want whatever week you want, as long as you comply with the basic rules. You have to choose wisely who you will pick which week. Some people might want to get out to a lead by picking the best golfers every week the first few months, others might want to spread it out, some might want to save their picks of the best golfers to the end. The golfers you pick don't have to be PGA Tour members, they just have to be in the field that specific week. I'll make sure to list who everyone has picked and how many times they've picked them, so you can have an organized way to strategize what you will do.

The Zurich Classic has a different format this year, its a team event. 72 hole stroke play event of 80 teams of two. Alternate shot rounds 1 and 3, Best Ball rounds 2 and 4. The rule for this week will be slightly different, pick two teams instead of normally picking two golfers. The three picks rule and the tiebreaker will not apply for this week.

4. Picks will be each week a PGA Tour event is taking place. If its a week with two tournaments, a big tournament and an opposite field, we just won't make picks for the opposite field. You don't have to pick every week, but its likely that the people who participate the most will have the best point totals at the end of the season.

5. The point values are as follows.

Win=11 Points
2-5=5 points
6-10=4 points
11-20=3 points
21-40=1 point
40-last place to make cut=0 points
Missed cut=-2 points

A secondary cut that sometimes happens after a third round won't count as a missed cut. It'll count as whatever place it has that specific golfer placing in. Any disqualification will count as -2.

Tournaments with weird formats, whether thats less golfers, match play format, etc will run by the same point values. In the matchplay for example, if you pick a golfer who loses in the round of 16, that'll go down as 9th place, as there were 8 that finished better. If you pick someone who didn't make it past the first round, that'll count as 17th place, as 16 placed better. Some weeks will just have weird point values, but I think this is the easiest way to do it rather than different points values every week.

6. Picks for each week are due by the first tee time of that tournament. If you want to change a pick before picks are due, you can. You can change as many times as you want, as long as its before the first tee time of that tournament. If the golfer you pick withdraws at any point in the event, its an automatic 0 points for that golfer, whether they withdrew before they started the tournament, withdrew after they made the cut or withdrew before the cut. If for some reason you pick someone who wasn't even in the original field, it'll be as if you just made one less pick that week, that golfer won't count against the three picks rule or count for any points. If you pick someone who you've already picked three times (or its the playoffs and you've already picked them four times), I think we should institute a rule where its a -2, counts as a MC, basically. The number of times you've picked someone is listed there for you. It shouldn't be hard to comply. Unless we have any disagreement about that, that'll be a new rule.

7. I'll post a link to the field each week. Otherwise, you can decide your selections using whatever formula or way of picking you want. If you want to be proactive, you could check to see if the golfer you want to pick has made any comments to the media about their form heading into the week or if they are going into the tournament at 100% fitness.

8. I'll post the standings following each tournament. Usually that'll be on Sunday night, after a tournament ends. Tournaments sometimes end on a Monday. You can post your picks whenever you want. If you want to be proactive, and you are going to be away for a few days or maybe a week or two, you can post your picks for the next event like a week or two early. Just try to avoid doing that every week, if you can. If it happens a few times, its not a problem.

9. During the playoffs, you are not allowed to make the same picks as the person you are competing against because you could potentially make the same picks, have it go to the tiebreakers and automatically win because you win the tiebreakers. The person who has last made their picks has to not pick the exact same golfers the person who made their picks first did. You can pick one of the same golfers, but not both. If the person who picked first makes a change after the second person has picked, the order they picked in reverses. You have to comply with those rules. If you don't and you pick the same golfers as the person who has their picks in first, you will be automatically disqualified from that round.

10. Don't be disrespectful about other people's picks. Banter is fine. Being rude is not.

Not that it really matters but shouldn't Cantlay + Koepka = +3 not +4?

It matters, and you are right. Thats my mistake. Fixed now. These counting errors come up every now and again, which is why I do ask that everyone check their scores to make sure they are correct.
