Jarvis vs Reichel, who would you take? I got a soft spot for brainiacs because hockey IQ is the most important trait in todays game.

Easy for me, Jarvis. Ceiling is high.
If Jarvis is not here at 16, I would be really ok with Reichel.
His potential is good (top 6 winger), and he is a bit taller.

They still had 60 points from St.Louis. And they still were able to get 100 points. And one thing is sure...with the SAME TEAM, Bishop had an save% of .924 while Lindback had a .891. Lindback. A better version of Gudlevskis.
St.Louis was great, but the team got significantly better. It's night and day comparing the current Tampa team to the 2014 one.

Okay guys, we need to make a band to write a #1 single. So obviously, the best place to start is to have a world class triangle player. Talent is talent, guys.
Have you seen Foo Fighters Live at Wembley? That guy brought the house down with that triangle solo :sarcasm:

Nobody expected Gainey to select Carey Price at no.5 I wanted kopitar but because of the lower league level he was playing at, I was led to believe that Gilbert Brule was THE guy. Also liked Benoit Pouliot but was taken at no.4

Why pick Price? We have Jose Theodore !

As it turns out, what was a gamble for Gainey ended up the right choice in term of Market Value, Best Player Available and Best Player at his Position

Carey Price's contract does expire in 6 years and who knows what need we will have in 5 years
But that was Gainey's gamble. At least, if we draft Askarov, a right hand glove, I'll have that story to help me cope with the fact that we passed the likes of Mercer, Hendrix, Holloway, Sanderson, Jarvis, Quinn, Lundell, Holtz, Grans, Bourque, Gunller, Amirov, Schneider, Reichel, Zary, Mysak, Guhle, Lapierre, Wallinder, Perreault etc...

With Price and Allen in 2021 and Price - Primeau the next 3-4 years, I can see Primeau-Askarov leading us through the After Price transition.

I would like it a lot

I have a feeling we will end up with Mercer, and he seems to have lowered on a lot of wishlists espiecally here... But I feel he would be a very good addition for us, I like his hands a lot and I feel he will be a 60, 70 points on good seasons. Room to add muscles to his frame so would look nice around our smaller players.

He has the smarts to succeed. Not the flashiest guy but if we end up with him I wouldn't be mad.

I wouldnt be mad if we were to select askarov at 16th. Id be laughing at the teams in need of an elite goalie that passed on him.

I know we don’t need him but value will be way higher than anyone we will be picking at 16th unless one of the player we were to select at 9th falls.

we’re talking about the most touted G since price. Damn right im taking him if hes still avaible at 16th instead of a « potential top 6 forward »

we all know how these forwards usually pan out.

Habs wont draft Askarov, no chance at all with Primeau in the system, Knight wasnt on their radar last year and Askarov wont be this year either... Thats one of Holloway, Reichel, Mercer or Jarvis, get ready for that, unless we trade up for Quinn...

Lapierre could at least help that. Goalies do nothing to affect the GF column. Players also affect the GA column. Reason number 147 why goalies are worth less than players.

Yes. You don't need an elite goaltender. You need good goaltending. Good goaltending is as cheap as chips. There is no payoff to having an elite goaltender. It's like having a gold toilet. All you need is a place to shit.
No, the teams with just 'good' goaltending also need their 'good' goaltender to get hot for the playoffs - so you can't just have a 'good' goalie and think you are set, you will also need a lot of luck if you go that route.
Never is the goalie only 'good' when the big games happen, they are merely 'good' during the regular season or 'good' over their career but when the big games happen they find a way to elevate if they are to win a cup.
There are plenty of 'good' goalies who crap the bed come playoffs and cost their otherwise elite team.
Do you take that chance?

Obviously not comparing both teams. They were still better than us if they would have had Bishop.

Hopefully, MB will trade up for Holtz, Quinn or Jarvis. No need for 3 2nd!

We definitely need our 2nd round picks. But I'm totally ok to give one of them if it gives us the option to trade up to pick one of these 3 top wingers. If not, we could grab some good players in the second (ex.: Villeneuve, Neighbours, Knazko, Jurmo, Finley, Coe, Cotton, etc.).

Carey Price happened to be drafted by Bob Gainey.

Marc Bergevin did draft a few goalkeeper.

2013: Zachary Fucale 2nd round 36 overall
2014: Hayden Hawkey 6th round 177 overall
2017: Cayden Primeau 7th round last drafted player199 overall
2019: Frederik Dichow 5th round 170 overall

looks like they had better success at drafting goalkeepers late in Marc Bergevin's era
could be a trend

What do you guys think of the following names:
Vasili Ponomaryov
Colby Ambrosio
Zachary Uens

(They were named sleeper picks in the article from The Athletic's scouts poll)

I like Zachary Uens. He's already 19 as he was passed over last year. He played this year for a gawd awful Merrimack team. Stepped in as a rookie and played tough, 2 way hockey on D. Very good skater, solid size, competitive player. Worth a pick 5-7 rounds.

Ambrosia had a strong season in USHL. Typical small & speedy player, which this draft has an abundance of. Going to Boston College. Great school. Same school that Gaudreau went too. You draft him thinking just maybe ....

Not a fan of Ponomaryov. There are other players I prefer in 2nd round.

Also like Samuel Knazko (LD) in Finland by way of Slovakia, Kasper Puutio (RD), WHL, Thimo Nickl (RD), QMJHL, Landon Slaggert (LW), US NTDP, William Dufour (RW), QMJHL, & Alex Laferriere (RW), USHL, as other potential mid-round picks (3-4).

We have 4 picks in those rounds.

If the Habs subscribe to the theory of BPA and Askarov is at the top of their list, it could make for a difficult decision for Timmins.

So would anybody be upset if Bergevin traded a 2nd (one of our higher ones) to move up a few spots if Quinn is still available at 12th or 13th? Or would you prefer keeping the 2nd and picking BPA at 16th?

Where would you guys rank amirov ? I'm a huge fan and see a potential panarin and would think hard about picking him at 16 call me crazy

He's not close to Panarin at all. Panarin is a 1% playmaker. Amirov is "over average". You are setting yourself up for a deception.

Amirov top end is more of a 25-35 winger, he doesn't have 100 pts potential, he doesn't have any elite abilities.

I'm clearly less confident than last year to land a game-changing prospect at 16 OA.

There's something about Jarvis's game that bugs me... Well, he's not the next Newhook IMO.

Not a huge fan of Mercer...

Not a huge fan of Holloway.. Plain and simple game.

Reichel has upside but sky isn't the limit.

Gunler gets me excited a little more than other prospects expected to go in that range.

I mean, these are good prospects, but they will be complementary wingers with 50-60 points upside. I just don't see any prospects in that range who could become future stars in the NHL.

Bottom line, I don't care if we use that pick to make a trade happen.

Nobody expected Gainey to select Carey Price at no.5 Why pick Price? We have Jose Theodore !

The problem with that was that it was the wrong way to look at it at the time. You don't look at your NHL roster and say why draft this guy cause in 5 years who knows what your NHL roster is going to look like. (not counting say a top 2 pick)

So the question is what return would they get for Primeau down the road, and while it should be something good it becomes what's better,

Primeau + say Jarvis or whatever forward
vs
Askarov + whatever the return on Primeau

assuming Askarov ends up being the better goalie as who knows, as Primeau has been about as good as one can hope, as so far he's shown to be 1st round talent.

What do you guys think of the following names:

Zachary Uens

I talked about him in previous draft threads back when I saw him play vs Caufield. Would certainly be interested though it's tough when their team is that bad and I didn't see that much of him so I would need to go back and read what I wrote cause there's also Declan Carlile but I can't remember if they were paired together or not.

So would anybody be upset if Bergevin traded a 2nd (one of our higher ones) to move up a few spots if Quinn is still available at 12th or 13th? Or would you prefer keeping the 2nd and picking BPA at 16th?

i wouldn't mind because I want them to do it. I'd love to get Quinn if the cost is right.
